I was broadsided by a young lady driving a 99 Dodge pickup (1/2 ton gasser). No one hurt, she had 3 young kids in the truck and everyone was buckled in ok. My truck sustained $9600 damage and hers $6300. Took it to Carstar in West Valley Utah. 8700 miles and this has to happen. I now believe you should drive it like you stold it, no sense saving it. Will not have the truck back until Dec 17 so I am driving a 2. 2 liter Chev Classic rental. :{ :{

Sorry to hear that... Maybe you remember, back 8 months ago - A drunk driver hit me behind the rear wheel on the drive-side... Spun me around, etc



Ended up getting a new take-off bed from a 2004 ram 1500, (same color of course) - saved some good money...



The only plus side I can tell since I've been there (there being wrecked ram w/ under 10k miles, and not your fault), Is that now I have realized that I will have to keep with truck forever, cause you will never get the true value as if it was never wrecked... That lets me justify ALOT more BOMBS for my truck... .



I just tell the wife, BUT HONEY, this is the last truck I will ever own, shouldn't it be the exact the way I want it ?!?!?!

Don't feel bad it could be worse. I was hit last year on Nov 30 yep tomarrow will be one year. Anyways I had just finished lifting my truck the day before and then got hit head on by a drunk driver. Truck only had about 3k miles on it. Boy was I mad. Good thing is every thing got fixed good as new. Hope all works out good for you.

Fortunately it looks like it's only sheet metal damage. They can replace it and make the truck like new.

Thanks for the replies. She went through that stop sign without a thought. I imagine those 2 boys (3&5 yrs) in the back seat distracted her. 6 mo old girl in the front.



Carstar will use all mopar parts and they claim to have a state of the art laser alignment system. I was told the frame was not bent, but if it was they could straighten it with no problem. I admit, I thought it might have been totaled and then I figured I was screwed. Can't get what it is worth.



You really have to worry if the truck will be the same or will it wear tires, wander etc. It pulled to the right anyway, like many others! Maybe now it will pull left!

Sorry about your truck... glad no one was hurt... . it just amazes me that the est. is $9600... . can't believe the cost of fixing vehicles today..... outrageous.....

They are not going to replace the bed! Replace the side and front of the bed. Not sure about the bed floor. I didn't know it came in pieces like that. Anyone know if the cab breaks down into smaller parts? I am going in tomorrow (35 miles) and check it out. The rear end took a real hit and there are no parts listed for the rearend. I did receive an itemized list of parts needed and estimated cost for parts and labor for each item.

Grayhackle - did you buy the side air bag option and if so did they go off? I know the front door didn't get damaged to badly, just curious.

No, I don't have the side bag option. My head hit the headliner above the door pretty hard too. Had a headache and stiff neck for a couple of days. I noticed the bags didn't go off on her 99 Dodge gasser either. Can't explain why.

Hopefully Carstar is a body shop that will honor&warranty their work far as long as you own the truck. My wifes Jimmy was wrecked March 03 (not her fault) an the repair warranty was only good for a year. We are still having small issues with it related to the wreck.

Carstar does warranty their work for as long as I own the truck.

Also Allied Ins. (her ins co) gave me an itemized list of parts and a statement saying they will represent me if I have issues with Carstars work for as long as I own the truck. Hope it is all true. I am anxious. When I bit the bullet and bought this truck, I figured it would be my last one. I drove my 90 CTD for 12 years.

Got T-Boned last week by a 550 fire truck outfitted for brush fires - flying through a red light - police report says at 55mph.



Pretty sure total loss - I'll know tomorrow for sure -



I got beat up a little but the driver of the fire truck spun, flipped, and got hit in the drivers side by a semi - still in crit condition... ... . hope he makes it out OK



Here's to nice strong frames and bodies... ... . hate to see if I was in my wife's PT cruiser

Hmmm, sounds like you didn't lift it high enough.

Jgoldsberry, Glad you are ok and hope the fire truck driver recovers. Makes mine look like a fender bender. Let us know if it is totaled. That is a heck of a lot of damage.



I did get my truck back yesterday and it is fine. Drove home on I80 and pushed it up to 80 with no vibrations or other noises. The only good thing is it does not pull to the right anymore!!! Oo. Stopped at Quality Dodge to get another willmore nerf bar. (CARSTAR couldn't find one and had put a MAAP on it. Rinky Dink compared to Willmore. Willmore is cheaper too. carstar paid Quality. ) Anyway, I do get distracted, I told the Service Manager and he said he would get his alignment system calibrated. Could be bs, but I was suprised he would admit there may be something wrong with his machine. He kept insisting my truck was ok.



Good luck with your truck. Will the insurance company get anywhere near actual value of your truck??

I hope so - I should know this morning - My research found retail to be $39-$40k and I owe a little less than that - damages were $27k as of Friday with an unknown damage factor I hope it to be $32 to $33k worth - to meet the 80% total rule. I will fight it if they try to fix it - the carfax value will kill me if I ever try to sell and with all the towing, I don't know if I can trust it again... ...

JGoldsberry--My insurance agent (Farmers) told me that if the damage is over 50% of the value of the truck, then it is totaled. I think the hitch is "value of the truck". Not sure how they determine that and I would bet I wouldn't be happy. With your kind of damage, I would be concerned and probably not trust the truck again. I know you get a sick feeling just thinking about it. Hang in there and hope for the best!
