We put in a torque convertor lockup switch that runs to the solenoid for the transmission, very cool i might add just for getting on the freeway and draggin..... but the question is, the t/c would lockup & un-lock frequently depending on throttle pressure like when decelerating or almost more frequently at a certain speed. almost like the TPS was going out. . but now, with the switch in the "off" position, it doesn't downshift automatically almost like it's still "locked" but not... .

If you want to thrash your torque converter (TC) just keep on "getting on the freeway and draggin" with it locked. That will do it. There has been plenty on these forums about what will happen if you do that. The torque converter clutch (TCC) does not have much clutch area and will slip with a lot of throttle from one of these torque monsters we have under the hood. The only reason to have an TCC lock up switch is for use with an exhaust brake. The transmission will NOT downshift with the TCC locked so if you slow down and then nail it at low RPM there is low clutch pressure and you are lugging it in high gear so the TCC is prone to slipping. Slipping will eventually ruin the TC.

here you go

I will tell you also that the coverter will slip, why do I know cause mine is! In my truck the converter stays locked up in OD while on the road so it got abused even in traffic driving but I have a permanent fix... . DTT. The land were lockup is not need for performance.

I bought my truck with a freshly rebuilt transmission. Within two weeks I had slid the camplate, adjusted the high idle screw and installed the TC lockup switch.

The transmission lasted 4 months and was in horrible shape (expensive to repair) when it finally quit.

Keep that in mind!

Oh nooooo

Yup, you now get to spend lots of $$$ to replace the converter that's getting trashed by that lockup switch.

Yes I do think your TPS is problematic.

Cummnzpowr,

There is nothing wrong with a lockup switch if it's used right, using it to transmit massive amounts of torque is not right. I have a 3 way switch installed Lock-Normal-Unlock. The only time I actually lock things is when I don't want the converter unlocking for every little brake tap to disengage the cruise.

I actually use the unlock function on a regular basis. I can keep the converter from locking until I have eased off the throttle some, prolonging the life of the lockup clutch.

My wife likes it because she knows when I'm getting ready to pass someone or accelerate extremely hard, she calls it my passing switch.
