I've got a '97 2500 4x4 (new to me) with about 230k on the clock. It runs great and has never been modded. There is a concerning rattle that seems to come from the t-case shift lever/linkage area. When going over rough terrain under power it rattles, and it rattles under hard throttle. If I push the lever forward, the rattle stops. I haven't pulled the boot to check the linkage yet, but plan too this weekend. Any thoughts?

The previous owner doesn't know if his 5th gear has ever been worked on, nor if the KDP has been fixed. I'll see to the KDP directly :) Then the mods will begin.

This rattle is just the normal vibrations rattling the linkage. I'm not sure what guys do to fix this. I have a '98 so mine is different and I haven't read about this in a long time. I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

Mine used to do it also. After I rebuilt the transmission and put in new bearings, the linkage rattle from the handle went away.

My 95 did this from new, mostly under "load". I used a rubber bungee under the truck, hooked it to the linkage rod & frame. No more rattle.
