Has anyone ever split a 241 in half?

I have a leak that is getting worse and its not coming from the output shaft on the T case, and its not coming from either of the red or green seals between the T case and the trans.

The leak is coming from where the two halves of the transfer case come together.

Just thought I would ask if anyone has done one before...

The same problem you are describing has been a re-occuring one for me. I just had the dealer install the second NEW transfer case. Not a reman. but new. That's the original plus two transfer cases in under 75k miles.

I did speak with a guy at transfercases.com and he suggested I find a good shop and have them do a "reseal". I guess this makes sense as if this is a problem from the factory, replacing it with new ones won't solve the problem. Does your truck have a heat shield between the exhaust pipe and the transfer case? Does it seem worse when you are on a long trip?

give me a call and we can check to see if the sealing surface is flat. . I work in a machine shop and have the equipment. I am also in Salt Lake.

I was told by the diesel tech at my old mans work that resealing the t case is very easy and very effective. You don't even have to pull it out of the truck. I guess there is a way that you can undo all the bolts that hold the two halves together and slide it back just enought to get a fair amount of mopar ATF RTV silicone and fix the leak.

Mine leaks very bad after driving it, and then does not leak when its sitting there.

I was told to check to make sure the breather plug at the top of the t case was still there, because in the past that has caused leaks.

I will be doing my very soon. Mine will leak close to a quart every two months. Mostly while driving, not sitting. It gives the underneath a very good rust preventitive coating...
