T-Case shifter moves under load?

I have a 2004 California model 2500 4x4, 48re, 3:73 anti-spin, short bed, quad cab. The transfer case shifter moves when I'm driving, hit bumps on the road, or is under load. It doesn't come out of gear, and the shifter itself is not lose, but it seems that what ever the shifter is bolted to is moving. It moves quite a bit. If I put my hand on it while accelerating, I can feel it move and it stops as soon as I let of the pedal. Have any of you noticed this and is it normal? I had a 2000 Ram 4x4 2500, and that shifter never moved? I would greatly appreciate any feed back.

My 2003 does it as did my 2000, and my 2 96 gassers and my 94 gasser. ect. . pretty normal

Every vehicle I've ever owned with a manual shift transfer case lever did the same thing. Perfectly normal. I actually like it... I think it looks kinda

the trans shifter [manual] and t-case shifter are bolted to the drivetrain, and not the body. when the engine torques, it will move. it is normal...

Thanks for the replies fellas. i was not sure if the t-case shifter should be moving so much-- like I said, my 2000 gasser didn't do it so I was concerned.

Remove your hood and take her out on the road and watch how much the engine moves while you step on the GO pedal,as the motor tries to turn over in the engine bay! :--) You will be suprised how much things move around with 600 lb-ft of torque applied! Ken Irwin

Transfer case shifter

I just noticed the same thing. I also noticed that the transmission shift lever did not move as much. I was wondering how that could be, being as they are bolted together.

Even better: replace your hood with a clear one. Now that would be cool. Just like that Ferrari with the clear engine cover.



How come no one ever thought to make a clear lexan hood (although I suppose surface scratches would be a problem). Maybe a clear dashboard and firewall, so you could see the engine while driving?

Damn, that is a idea!!! I'll bet you started something. Matter of fact, you should cash in on that idea. You could be rollin in dough . Oo. To bad you had to mention it before you made a few. Someone else will probably run with your idea, and get rich.

i don't see how anyone could think of the tcase shifter moving being a problem. if you think about it for a second, the tcase is attached to the transmission, which is attached to the engine. now under load what way does an engine move? i would expect some of that horizontal movement to be transfered down the driveline. normal to say the least.

Hey fellas, a certain amount is normal. However, if it is excessive movement, then you should be checking your rubber mountings. The trans mount on my 99 was torn.

I've got an '80's Bronco with a Mechanical clucth, and when that thing is about to go on three wheels, the clutch pedal falls to the floor, or the clutch partially disengages, LOL. You gotta keep movin',, no stopping when doin' the twisties.



I would check for loose, or torn mounts if it moves excessivly. (Motor and transmission)



My 4x4 can really move the shifter around, I'd consider it normal.
