Yea Baby:D :D i did it

Finally convinced the wife that we needed to get this done now as we are going on a 3000 mile trip in june. I just wanted her to be as comfortable as apossible  :D

I have been working on her for a while now and filling her head w/$3500 visions so when i came up with $2300 it was a bargain right??

Whatever works use it

The T-REX/Bilstein system is the newest addition to T-REX's product offerings. This system is designed for the driver that doesn't want to go 65mph accross the desert. This is for the person that wants to go slower over rough terrain ( 30 mph or less) like most of us. The additional huge benifit comes on the street. This system is a freeway expansion joint killer :D Designed and tested on some of the worst expanision joint sections of calif freeways(and we have some of the worst)

While unwraping the parts it becomes apparent that this is not your ordinary stuff. This stuff is TRICK!!!!!!!!! especially the upper shock mounts. This is on big chunk of 6061 T-6 Aluminum that was very well machined. Them shiny black coils are sweet also.

The installation is strait forward and basic. The instructions are excellent. My only problem was that my air ratchet took a dive on me while taking off the wheels and i did the entire install w/ hand tools :( I like to call it "enjoyable hard labor"

The alpha male in me enjoyed imposing my will on her w/ hand tools She sure knows who is the boss now;)

I went ahead and got the rear mini leafpack and made a slight adjustment to the truck while i was in there. On 3500's you get a overload spring which sits on a 5/8ths spacer above the main pack of leaves. looking at the spacer I noticed it was just like the two spacers under the main pack, hmm..... i wanted to get a little more hight out of the rear anyway,hmm... ... now it has 3 spacers under the mainpack!! You get rid of the upper overload spring and the big honking overload spring that sits on the very bottom of the pact. These are replaced with three progressive leaves that add to the four std leaves. The net result is a very progressive springpack that cam still handle a large loadOo.

I ended up getting slightly more the 2 1/4 inch lift in the front and a 5/8ths lift in the back. It looks perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On road driving impressions are unbelievable!!!!!!!!! a one ton short bed 4X4 w/ 35 inch tires, is not supposed to ride this way. diffinately 1/2 to territory. handleing and cornering is greatly improved. body roll is also reduced. I haven't got a chance to go off roading yet but i have been attacking dips, speed bumps and anything else that uses travel in the suspension and it has soaked up everything i can throw at it. (currently looking for more testing opportunities)

I predict that this system will become T-TREX's best seller as it is the ticket for 75% of us out there.

I will be at the AFE dyno day on april 3 and anyone looking for a test ride i will be happy to oblige.

I took some pics but they are not processed yet. I will post them ASAP

Fire away w/ questions if you have them

Disclaimer: I am not affilliated w/ T-REX just a very happy customer.

Best regards

Diesel Dan

Did the kit only cost $2300 or is that what you told your wife? How long did it take to install and is this something most of us can do on our own?

FDavid

the kit sells for $ 2,000 (including limiting straps) and the rear mini pack sells for $300 (must have)

Installation time is listed at 2-4 hrs i think. Mine took much longer considering the use of hand tools. I took my time and enjoyed the experience. It can be done by the masses providing you have a good set of tools and a large lift jack and h/d jackstands and wood blocks. I would recommend doing this with air tools as i was sore the next day. I work in a office and am not as strong as i used to be.

Ah, so yours are non-remote rezzies? With factory Bilstein parameters, not custom tuned by TRex? I'm sure it's a night and day difference over stock, but I figure if I'm gonna bite the bullet, I'll bite HARD! :p I mean, I really NEED to be able to jump my new $40K truck several feet in the air, right? hehe ;)

I miscommunicated. mine are remote rezzies and are custom valved for T-REX.

It is still the full bore but better set-up for my/most uses.

Diesel Dan... . thanks for pioneering. I have communicated with T-Rex about the Bilstein option for my new 600 as I have my Rickson's leftover from my 02 and they hate washboards. Try to take the truck apart. Kent thought the Bilsteins would really help. You have a heavier tire there so your report encouraging. I also haul 4000 plus pounds of camper and normally would use Rancho's but Kent thought I should not have a sway issue with the Bilsteins. You think? I am building my aluminum flatbed now and shocks are coming up so I am glad to see you running my top choice, Meriwether. George

Oh... I thought that was the best you could get... . so what does the extra $$$ buy you if you go the $3500 route? The King-based T-Rex shocks that are good for dropping your truck from small buildings? :p

Oh, joy! Oo.

This last week I read the threads and the TDR mag article on the T-Rex. The long, long one was very instructive. Made me start salivating, dreaming, and planning. I was at the T-Rex site last night and noticed they had the Fox and Bilstein options in addition to the Kings. I was wondering if the Bilsteins or Foxes were the less expensive setup that Kent alluded to in the earlier threads. And Eureka! here is the answer :)

I wonder is Kent Kroeger is hang around here? He was extremely instructive in the earlier threads. I would like to get his take and run down on the various kits.

I know I could call T-Rex but youse guys ask such perspicacious questions that I would learn more right here on TDR :D

Kent recently posted in the Product/Accessories forum about his new systems, a gathering of trucks in Baja and other tidbits...

Oo. Wow. I want one, but it'll be rough footing that bill. Plus I'd probably have it professionally installed (too afraid of screwing something up!). Congrats, Dan!!

rbattelle queries

extended control arms... wouldn't that improve travel?

Check out the long thread linked by tpuig. Kent discusses stock, control arms, springs and etc. I printed out a copy last week to file and dream about cruis'n the backroads of WY, and MT. Not that our roads aren't in immaculate condition  . Could have used it in UT this spring. However, I still maintain my 04 rides and handles heads and tails above either my 98 or 02.

Thanks tpuig for linking the thread. For some reason I missed the post after the Baja announcement, i. e. didn't get an email annoucement of a new post even though I subscribed. Helps answer the question I posted though.

What a quandary. Bumper or T-Rex. Smack a deer/elk/moose or jump over it?

I ordered my kit last week. Same with the Bilsteins. Kent is a real nice guy also and answered all of my questions. All I need now is my truck. (on a railcar somewhere between Colton CA. and Mira Loma)

Hello Guys

Kev,

I will be there for sure. Maybe dyno if you can squeeze me in. I hope to give lots of rides. Although they will not be like Kent's rides

rbattelle, You can do it yourself and save apx $400. The concept is simple, the instructions are great, and all the parts are big. It's not like taking apart a carb and having a few little parts left over:)

I will post pics tomorrow.

Can anyone brief me on setting up my picture gallery. I want to show bigger pictures.

Regards
