I'm thinking of picking up a BB T70 for the little turbo in a twin setup. The one I've found is for sale for $500. Is this a good deal for this turbo?

That's a darn good deal for that turbo... if it is the real deal. I want to say that those things go for like $1800 new...

Since it is classified as a 'T70 BB' - lets hope it's a true-blue Turbonetics unit. Lets also hope that it doesn't have the crap kicked out of it.

What 'trim' is the turbine?

What's the AR on the turbine side?

It probably doesn't have an internal wastegate...

You should just sell it to me... I'm sure you don't need it. :D

Matt, that's what I was thinking, too - $2k or so for the turbo, which has me puzzled on the price. I also got the specs from him: it's a P-trim, has 'wet floating ball bearings', . 84 turbine side, . 70 comp side. Unfortunately, he also said the compressor wheel is only like 60. 5 mm ?? This sounds a lot smaller than the Turbonetic T70, doesn't it?

Chris

Okay - the P-trim is pretty aggressive... it sits right between the O and the Q...

'wet floating ball bearings' = water cooled, ball bearing CHRA (Center Housing Rotating Assembly).

60. 5mm is par for the course with a T70. Keep in mind that these compressors may not be very wide... but they're VERY tall and extremely aggressive.

I think this turbo would make a KICK-A$$ top turbo on a twin turbo setup... but you're going to have to run a pretty big external wastegate since it only has a . 84 A/R turbine housing.

That thing would spool VERY fast as a single turbo... having it as a top turbo on a staged twin setup would be sweet.

Now all you need to find is a 'Thumper' to bolt on for the bottom turbo... you'd need a pretty substantial bottom turbo to feed a T70...

Matt

That is not a Turbonetics T70... I really hope it has ball bearings... if not... it's no real big deal... it's still a pretty good deal.

I hope it's balanced very well and was built by someone who knows what they're doing. That eBay ad didn't impress me a whole heck of a lot...

Bandit1: A true-blue T70 is about the same physical size as the HX-35, BUT - it flows quite a bit more. I'm not too sure about the turbo that Chris is buying just yet... time will tell.

Matt

It's a super T-70 which has a considerably smaller compressor wheel than a T-70 from say Turbonetics or Garrett. I dont buy the ball bearing thing because it is 3-400 bucks new. IMHO I'd walk away and get a real T-70 wether it's ball bearing or not.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Bandit1, the T70 flows about the same as an HX-55, but is physically smaller.

I think I'm going to pass on this turbo and find a higher-$$ one that should hopefully last longer. Anyone ever dealt with MJM Turbo before?
