I have a few questions. I have the tab. From reading through the one or two other threads on this subject :-laf , I gather that I will also need a gasket for the cover and a seal. Does anyone have the Cummins numbers on these items? Also, does a lot of oil stay in there, or does it drain back down into the pan? Do I need any other parts? Thanks!

all you need is grey rtv, red loctite and some brake cleaner. i assume you are replacing the seal as well, make sure the crank is clean and dry. i just used the rtv on the timing cover no gasket. there is very little oil inside the timing area as it all just drains back into the pan. everyone complains about putting the seal back in the cover i threw my seal in the freezer for a little while and warmed up the cover with my shop heater and it slipped in fairly easliy with a seal install tool. bought a kit for $30. have fun !

Have you tried searching the threads?

Yes, I did search. This is one of those subjects that there is so much info that I honestly didn't have time to go through the literally hundreds of threads. I didn't find the threads with part numbers. Maybe I searched using wrong words.

It's tabbed!

Well, I got it done! Took longer than I hoped for, but less than I anticipated. Some things that I wish I knew/thought of first:

-The wiper fluid bottle has TWO bumps that have to be held out of holes.

-The fan nut is 36mm, or one big vise grip :D .

-You should know where the tab that you ordered three months ago is BEFORE you take everything apart.

-You can make your own tab out of stray pieces of metal.

-Kill the tab BEFORE you lift the truck, even two inches. It's hard enough to lean over without additional height.

-The big bolt that is left goes to the holder for the oil filler, not somewhere inside.

-Locktite 277 is the same as Permatex Red (I hope!)

-If you're going to be leaning over the front of the truck for an extended period of time, take the hood latch off. Helps prevent bruising to the sternum.

All in all, an educational afternoon. I had a seeping gasket anyway, so checking the KDP was icing. It was out about 3/32" and I couldn't get it back in, so I tabbed it there. Everything else looked good. Turns out one of the bolts holding the cover on was very loose, maybe that's where it was leaking. Tomorrow... Kodiak steps!

Hey Big PaPa - cool link. FYI for guys w/other years - If you go to the link BP supplied and click on "specs" at the top you can find the specs for all CTD/Dodge engines. Good info! Thanks
