Had my truck out about four hours, and shortly after getting going, the check engine light came on, the tachometer was intermittent, and when the tach kicked back in, the truck stumbled a few times. The stumble did not occur every time the tach kicked back in. I let it sit a few hours, and on the restart the tach was fine, and there was no stumble. Check engine light still on, but I am not surprised there. Any ideas?

More to above situation

I did wash the truck this afternoon, and gave the underbody a good rinse. Wondering if there might be some water in an undesirable location.

Sounds like a crank position sensor problem, its behind the stater so it could have caught some water. No worries is the problem does not come back.

2001. 5 only has a cam position sensor and it's between the injection pump and the vacuum pump. My truck did something very similar, so I went and got a new sensor and then proceded to try and change it. I couldn't get to it no matter what I tried so I put the connector back and and said screw it. It never gave me a problem again. Must have just been a loose connection. A while later I took my vacuum pump out to do the seals and still had the new sensor so I put it in at that time. It was easy to get to then

Thanks for all the info. The truck has been run three times since the problem above, and the tach is working perfectly. The check engine light cleared on the way home tonight.
