I have a 2006 3500 g56 Ram that has suddenly developed erratic, and low tachometer readings at idle only. As soon as I step on it, it reads correctly. Anyone have this problem? What could cause this and what might fix it?

i have the same problem. started off the same way. now it will read 4000rpm's when im crusing! 0rpm at idle. maybe it's just a bad connection somwhere?

I searched the forums and found a loose connection as a possibility. I will check them and repost my findings. I did put in a Rokktech sensor two years ago. Maybe that is the culprit. We shall see.

Mine has been doing the same thing for quite some time now. Still havent been able to figure it out, even had the truck scanned and nothing comes up. My Edge reads the rpm's fine so I dont know what the problem is. I can get my gage to go all the way around until it hits the little peg to make it stop. It started out being about 1000 rpm off and now its way off and not even close to what it should be.

Not sure if this is any help, but I've got the same issue. Reads about 350 at idle (low) and about 2400 when I shift (which is normally about 2100). I've actually caught it correcting itself twice while driving. I glanced down at the tach and saw the needle suddenly jump up. But these days, it's wrong more often than it is right.

Yikes!!! Thats a lot of 06's with the same problem. Sounds like a dash cluster controller problem, expensive fix. Sure you didn't want to hear that. :{

Mine is doing the same. I had it scanned and the rpm registered correctly on the scan tool. Mechanic said bad gauge cluster. Great engine but everything built around it is crap!

mine does the same thing, runs fine, is out of warranty, doubt it gets fixed til somebody around TDR finds a cheap fix. one thing about TDR members, we are a frugal bunch, just give it some time, somebody somewhere alot smarter than me will figure it out.

Mine just started bouncing at idle. Has anyone had it replaced under warranty? Trucks going in for some work in the morning and I would like to get it taken care of.

they replaced mine under warranty. took 3 days because they had to "program the miles"??. . (said miles were storeded in computer and tac display, so i couldn't drive it while on order. ) 70k with extended warr

Mine has the same problem. At idle it reads low and above 2200 rpm it will read a few hundred high. I have seen it correct itself a few times and even jump 500 rpm to catch up.

the entire cluster (All guages is one item)

today i noticed all my lits on the passenger sider (running lights) are on (about half power/brightness) and nada on the drivers side.

it comes on by itself after the curtsey lights (headlight & running) turn off. . WTF!!

any ideas?

My 06 does the same thing. I first noticed it while pulling our trailer. When it down shifted (normally), the tach showed something like 3800 RPM! I almost crapped and got my foot out of it. Then I realized that it didn't sound any different than normal. I now notice that every once in a while the idle speed is about 200. I'm hoping that what the tach shows doesn't influence anything else the engine does. I'm out of warranty, but I have the extended. I'd like to get my money back, but if it needs a whole new cluster, I might go for it. Of course, it probably won't do it for the tech!
