Tach sensor and gage help

I am trying to find a 2 1/16 tach for my 93 D250 with (yes) a Cummins turbo in it. As I have yet to acquire a factory manual, All Data says that there is no tach sensor on this model so I have been looking for the sensor/gage combo. Having read some of the threads in this form, I seem to be seeing that maybe there is a sensor and even wiring already on the truck. Questions are the sensor there already and them of equal importance where might I get a 2 1/16 tach with an option to get also the sensor if it really isn't on the truck engine. I have emailed "Allgage" and it's been a week with no response. I bet someone out there has my solution. I already have the trans temp gage and mounting stuff for a pillar mount of the two gages.

Your truck should have the factory tach provisions on it. Look under the dash to the left of the steering column. There should be a black 4 wire plug there. The tach signal and a ground wire and the dash light wire. I can't remember what the forth wire is for. LOL

Isspro ( http://www.isspro.com/ ) makes a tach for our trucks. Do not buy thier wiring kit. It costs $35. and it isn't worth it. All you get is what looks like speaker wire with mini spade terminals on it.

AutoMeter does not make a tach to interface with the Dodge tach signal.

Westach ( http://www.westach.com/ ) makes one for our trucks. I think there are a couple of members using them. I'll let them speak for the quality.

Now the Isspro tachs you need to watch the depth of your gage cup. I tried to use one in a Autometer steering column mount. The tach is to long. Even with the gage light cut off. It is still to long. You might have the same problem with an A pillar mount.

The 91. 5 and up trucks should have the tach harness. Some 91. 5 didn't, some did. All the tach wiring is doing is running off the signal from the crank position sensor so if you have one of those you should have the tach option.

The Isspro EVA series will work with the internal sensor system or it will work with a kit on the damper pulley. They are a bit longer so in the A-pillar mount it may be a problem. They fit fine on the dash mounts.

Huh!! I paid $12 for mine. You have my sympathy Philip.

Philip is right though, you don't need the harness unless you have some signal problems. The EVA series usually doesn't need the filter that is in the harness, in fact it wouldn't even work on mine so wiring with speaker or lighter wire will work fine.

The 4th wire is a ground, on my '92 D350,

gray-signal

orange-lites

black-power

black-ground

I bought an Autometer tach, had to wire in a pickup wire in the alternator. Check the thread "Couple electrical problems" for updates.

AHuggard,

Welcome to the club.

I got my tach from Gale Banks in Azusa,Ca. 888-635-4590

comes with its own pickup and magnets that you EPOXY on to the harmonic balancer. cost is about $211. 00

I only used the 4 wire connector under the dash for 12v, lites, & ground.
