Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Tachometer Hookup?

How do I hook up a external tach to the cummins motor? I'm checking my Idle speed.

You need to first hookup a pulse generator. then you can hook the tach to that.

You can use a hand held optical tachometer.

That's what I have to check idle speed, calibrate the dash tach, check gov speed, etc.
