Finally got all my gauges(pyro was back ordered)installation went great except my tachometer won't work. Talked to tech assistance@VDO he still says that output from PCM post #43 is 100hz@3000 rpm which is same as 4-cylinder gas ignition. I am only getting . 145 Volts at idle and . 28 Volts when engine is close to the governor. VDO says that it should be over 5 Volts and told me to check with Chrysler,local dealer no help and only technical assistance line is for their mechanics. Does anybody know what the voltage output from the PCM should be? Thanks in advance, guess I should have just bought the Mopar tach? I wanted all my gauges to match. Thanks,

I'll be watching this post real close as I have the same problem as you. Got a new set of gauges last summer from US Gear. The tach is ISSPRO. Had it installed at Camping World(that was the SECOND mistake!)I suspect the installer shorted something out as there was no brake or tail lights when he finished and I found a blown fuse. He would not admit to it though. They tried another tach but it wouldn't work either. I could not measure a signal at the wire that was supposed to have the signal(light blue if I remember correctly). Tried replacing the crankshaft position sensor but that didn't help, only cost $80 to try it!! I finally called the factory to beg for help and had tthem send me a set of the magnets fr the crank along with a sensor. I have not tried to put them on yet but will soon. I'll let you know if it works.

When i installed my Banks tach on my 93 i could'nt get it to work with the factory harness either, so i went with a magnet sender kit that i bought for a cruise control and glued them on the balancer and made a little bracket for the sender thats mounts to the bottom cross member, almost 3 years now and still working nicely

Rick, Do you remember how many magnets you had to put on balancer,1 or 2,also did you have to change any setting on the tach? On my instructions it shows being able to use a lead off the alternator and then you have to set it for the number of pulses per revolution, I haven't been able to figure out which lead from the alternator and how many pulses/revolution from the factory service manual. #ad

FYI guys... My Motorola tach is hooked up to the alternator, unfortunately it was already installed when I bought it so I don't know which output it is on. But it has worked flawlessly for the 5 years I have had it, it has an hour meter in it and has been installed since the truck was new. I have to rebuild the alternator, but not soon enough to help you guys out I think.
When I tear into it I will re-post.

i had to use two magnets with the banks tach, i don't know who makes theres but most are probably the same

With the VDO connected to your alternator you need to have a shunt installed. You also need to know how many poles are in it I cant remember what mine had.
