Does anyone have a tail gate lock they've installed. I am looking for either an electric or manual (key) lock that is easy to install, very good quality and looks OEM. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony

I had a power lock on my 98' tailgate since day one and loved it. Operated with the remote power door locks. Very clean and no one will ever know it is there!

Plan on putting one on my 07 soon. This time I will do the install myself!

Pop n Lock

I just put a Pop n'Lock on my '06. They have a manual and auto lock available. Very easy install, but I wonder how truly effective it would be. It doesn't block the internal latch mechanism but blocks the handle from lifting up and only on one side. It won't open when locked but there is a lot of give in the handle. Seems like it could be defeated if one was determined and was willing to break the handle. Serves it purpose. If someone really wanted to break in, they'd just throw a rock thru the camper top glass. All locks are basically deterrents.

I got my electric lock w/ my pace edwards rolling/locking cover. Not 100% secure, but someone is going to have to really want to get into the bed. All you can do is make it difficult and time consuming enough that the thief decides to move onto the next vehicle.

Bully for me

I have the Bully tailgate lock. For the money about as simple and secure as any tailgate key lock

I got a power lock from Summit for about $68. It's the internal tyupe that blocks the mechanism. It's a noce lock for the money and not hard to install. Now I need to figure out why it won't work when connected as shown. The lock works when 12 V is applied, but not when attached to the wires under the dash. Wrong wires?

Probably the wrong wires. I didn't have the problem when I installed on this truck, but on my last truck (s10) I had wires that triggered at the right times, but were only 1. 5 volts or something like that. You can either pull 12 volts from somewhere else and use a relay with the wires you have as signal wires or find the wires under the dash that already have 12 volts going to the locking mechanisms in the doors. I did it over 2 years ago, so can't remember what wires I used... for that matter, they could be different on my 04 vs. your 06.
