Does anyone have a problem with their tail shaft weeping. Is this normal? I just don't want to take my truck in if it is minor or nature of the beast. Oh yea 5spd 2k.
Thanks
Jim

If it was dripping any fluid at all, I would say that it is unacceptable.
Just my opinion on the matter.

How many miles do you have on it?

Don't know if it was the tail shaft but I had to have my ring and pnion seal replaced. About 17,000 miles. IMO any oil leak is too much, especially low miles and under warranty. I got lucky,no more leak from mine.

The leak is where the u-joint yoke goes into the tail shaft. It really doesn't drip fluid but it's always wet.

I've posted this before, but I have a slight seepage leak from my transmission, but only when I tow. Had a good pull yesterday from Darlington, South Carolina to home in Kingsland, Georgia. I tow a 31 ft Nomad travel trailer. The trip total was 280 miles. I ran 70-72 mph all the way. The seepage from the transmission was there. Nothing from the tailshaft housing seal and a little bit from the ring and pinion seal. I've got Amsoil synthetics in both and I think that this stuff gets to a certain temperature and finds the weak points in the gasket. Under no load driving conditions I never leak. What is really interesting is that my Mag-Hytec seal hasn't given up a drop since I installed it in the summer of 1999. That tells me it's the factory gasket that is weakening. My fluid levels don't drop so I don't worry, but I monitor it closely when towing. I hate leaks, but I will live with this one as long as it doesn't get bad. I have had the tailshaft housing seal replaced once and the ring and pinion seal once as well, but those were both seal failures and I lost to much fluid for my liking. The fluid leak on my transmission is on the driver side where the tailshaft housing is bolted to the transmission.

Mine still leaks after D C put in 8 new seals, plus one new tailshaft housing, tired of going in .

I was under mine the other day and it seems to be leaking pretty good. I am taking it in for warranty work (Just instaled a Banks Power Pack, I am sure this will be fun). I will NOT tolerate a new truck(only 16,000 miles). I dread dealing with the dealers.
