Originally I was looking at a Powered Tail Gate because it just seemed so cool. Then saw the Gate Glide and thought maybe it was more practical, then I saw this torsion bar thing a thought its time to post and ask if there are any users of these products.

My original idea came from watching my wife struggle with the gate, while lowering it for better visibility on the boat ramp + I didn't like her behind the truck at that point & thus the powered gate thought.

Hauling a motorcycle AND our travel trailer requires removal of the gate so I don't want to add to the work getting the gate off.

Any thoughts?

Probably in your case I would lean more toward looking at the torsion bar set up more. It looks simple enough as that it would not seem to give added time to completely removing the tailgate.

I myself have the fear of hauling my fourwheeler because tailgate has to be down for rear tires of the fourwheeler to ride on especially since I have the SB and a toolbox installed. Fear of the cables all of sudden breaking going down the road. :--) :{

Actually I think the torsion bar would be more complicated to remove the tailgate. I have a gate glide from Genos and it doesn't make removing the tailgate any more complicated. There is a clip on the end of the cable that attaches to the tailgate so you just unclip that and remove the tailgate like normal (you just leave the tube and cable attached to the bedside). The torsion bar setups that I've seen in the past (and this one looks the same from the limited amount of information out there) require that you unbolt a bracket in order to remove it.

After reading this thread, I decided to order the torsion bar (EasyLift) from e-trailer.com. The bar was cheap, easy to install and works as advertised. My wife can raise the tailgate now one handed. How long will it last? Only time will tell.

I think I will give the tail gate glide a try, its on my wish list for Christmas and B-Day.

The powered gate seemed real cool but the seller says it takes 15 seconds to lower and 15 to close the gate. Not allot of time but IMO should be 1/2 that.

If I didn't have to remove my gate as much as I do then the easy lift looks like a great addition.

I also bought the easy lift torsion bar and it does work as advertised. Great mod for the money - $15 from cabelas. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who frequently removes their tailgate, but I never do so it works for me.

I find that Geno's Gate Glide works great. I was concerned that it might be a problem to mount it along with my capper top but it works fine. I mounted it on right side of the box but you could use either side.

I also have the Genos gate glide. I bought it so my wife could open/close the gate when hitching/unhitching our 5th. whl. She likes it a lot. Have had it for a year and so far so good. :D

I would like to try the Gate Glide also, but I'm not sure if it will fit. I have the American Roll Cover and the side rails mount with brackets to the underside of the rails.

Anyone have experience with these two together? Thanks.

Gate Help

Hello,

Newbie here but with the talk on tail gates decided I would chime in on what I have. I do like the torsion bar discussion since it looks like it would assist with helping to open and close easily.

I use my truck(s) to haul cargo every now and then and was always coming up short of enough room to keep from having to lay things on top of the tailgate and had the sticking up in the air or out further. Purchased the Xtremegate about 2 years ago and it's been great in allowing that "extra" room when needed in hauling debris or furniture. Just thought I would share, it's a nice product and has lasted 2 years here and two trucks, moving it from the old 2004 to the new 2007 just recently.

Thanks, this is a great site and glad I joined recently.
