Tailgate cables

got a used tailgate painted to match the truck. Problem is tailgate hits bumper slightly on passenger side. I’ve tried moving the bumper down as much as possible. Just seems like cables are too long. Parts suppliers call for 21 1/4” which is what current cables are. I don’t want to bust this gate up. Anyone make customs length cables?

Does the tailgate have those bushings in the pockets?

Yes I put the bushings in. Thanks it’s a 126 had restored for my daughter.

Are the new cables the same length as the originals?

Yes they are. Drivers side had noticeable slack in the old cable and one that came with “new” gate but doesn’t hit bumper like passenger side. The old gate had the emblems on it and you can see where they indented into the bumper plastic. I opted to not put emblems back on

Try swapping the cables to see if the problem moves to the other side. There me be some adjustment at the point of attachment.

I’ve done that as well with no change.

Perhaps it's time to swage your own cable. Won't match exactly but...

How are the body mounts? Is the passenger side rear collapsed or rusted?
