My Brother In-law painted a really awesome Rattlesnake mural on the back of a spare tailgate that I inherited from a fellow TDR member who had bought a 5th wheel tailgate. He had it laying around his house when he sold his '02 and bought a new '07 so he told me I could have it.
My Brother In-law was painting helmets and small stuff as a hobby and I mentioned that I had the spare gate if he wanted to play around with it. I gave him $100 for paint and told him to paint a picture of a snake on it.
Well..... Below is what I got. :-laf
My problem is, I want two complete tailgates. My old one for working, hunting, firewood cutting etc. and this new one for show.
I need the hardware for the new gate. I have the handle and the bottom hinges. but I need the side latches, rods, bolts, cables etc.
The local dealer wants $225 for everything I need. #@$%!
The question is... . Where can I find inexpensive hardware for this gate so I can have an easy off/ easy on swap? The local Junk yards don't have any 2002 Dodge RAM 2500's either.
I would also love a way to lock it so at least I'd slow down any punk that would like to liberate it for my truck.
I know what your thinking. . "Come on, free tailgate, free paint job, and this guy won't spring for some new hardware!!"
I'll pay the dealer if I have too, but I have a kid in college and another one about to start... . do I need to say more?
BTW. . the picture doesn't do the art work justice. It is really breathtaking. I was speechless when I first saw it. The flag in the Dodge block letters has stitches brushed in between the strips, and you can see the wrinkles in the waving flag. Every scales on the snake was individually hand painted with a home made stencil.
He has some hours in this. Of course I told him “Not bad for your first try!”
:-laf
I told him he needs to do this for a living! He's good!
Any help will greatly be appreciated!!
