Would like to install the lightbar from 3500 dually and as always need your help. What parts are necessary and what do you have to do to install them. Thanks once again for any input.

Does anybody know where (or if) this plugs into the factory wiring harness on the 2500? I've scoured the forums and I haven't been able to find any information. I looked over my wiring harness and didn't see any plugs, but I could have missed it.

Thanks!!

My guess is the 2500 and the SRW 3500 won't have the plug as the centre lights are not required on them. The centre lights are a DOT requirement on vehicles over a certain width. They are not an option on the dually but rather a requirement as per DOT specs. The assembly is available from dealer as I bought one for my RV tailgate. The light assembly and the harness are separate items so you need to order both pieces to make it work.

D.O.T. Light Bar

You will also have to cut three retangular shaped holes in center of tailgate for the stock light bar to work. Probably need some sort of template, I have been wanting to do this procedure myself for the last two years, but seems like other things it's been put on hold.

I posted about doing this several months back also. I have also considered trying to find a dually tailgate in Bright White at a reasonable price an get out of having to cut out the holes. Just swap them out.

Wiring up the light I thought I would just rig up a connector on light wiring harness to plug into the 4-way plug that is located under the rear bumper that I don't use anyway, I have the 7-way plug also mounted in the bumper an use a 4-way adapter with it. :D

FDavid -- Yours came with it factory since it's a 3500, even though it's the SRW. I'm trying to find out if the 2500 has the same plug on the harness. I'm going to look again, but after looking at the diagram, it seems like it might be somewhere on the driver side of the spare tire near the frame. Does anybody know for sure? I want to look, but it's sleeting here. ugh

Tony T -- I wonder if round holes would suffice. hmmmm... . Maybe I should bribe the dealer into removing one and letting me make a template off of a new truck on their lot. I'll have to find out. :)

Tailgate...

Well, i did it this way... when i ordered my '03, 3500, SRW, it did not come with the rear lightbar... So i ordered it with the truck! The dealship ended up drilling the holes and "installing" the lightbar! On my 3500 it only works as a STOP light... Soon as i can a picture... Oh yes, you have to order the parts from Dodge, with the harness. The reason it only works as a stop lite... because that's all i ask for! It can be wired anyway you like!

'03, SRW, SWB, 6spd, limited slip, all stock, QC, Bright White, HO, 3500

It only works as a stop light? That's interesting. So what I need to order are is the light and harness which will connect it to an existing plug somewhere I'm assuming, right?

Dad wanted to put one on his '02 2500. He went to Redneck and bought the three light bar used on the back of trailers ($10). It DOES NOT look factory because it's not as nicely contoured, but at night you can't tell the difference. I'm pretty sure he just tapped into the taillight wires, most likely the ones for the trailer hookup. I'll ask him to find out for sure.

I'm not setup to post pics yet, but PM me with your email and I'll send you a pic. I'll see if I can find the Redneck part #. Actually, dad's a dealer so I might be able to get you the part if you want it.

Just got back from the dealer. It looks like the chasis wiring harness is different between the 2500 and 3500. So -- I'll have to tap a wire somewhere. I can probably get one off of the trailer light hookup pretty easily. Drilling is my other concern.

Soooo, how much would I have to bribe one of you dually owners to get you to take off your lightbar and shoot a few pictures of the holes and take a couple quick measurements for me? :D

how about one of the LED line of fire lights in the gap between the tailgate and bumper... ? no need to drill for the cyclops light in the tailgate...

Tailgate Light

Maybe thinking out loud here, but if you go ahead an order the light from Dodge, I'm sure theres a gasket that comes with it as a moisture barrier, it might be contoured to the back of the light, another words the gasket might be used as a template or something close JMO, then again it may just follow the outer edge of the light I don't know.

If I'm not mistake the light an harness was around 90$ bucks when I checked on it. Of course this has been awhile so, don't hold me to that price.

I would just get a 4-way plug to match the one that's on the truck an wire it up that way, no cutting into truck wiring harness. Choose your own poison here stop light, on with park lights, etc.

Tony

I was able to get my hands on one at the dealer to look at it. The gasket goes around the outside edge only and has two open spots on the bottom, apparently for drainage if any water gets in behind it. As far as the holes -- I'm not sure if the wiring harness goes through the tailgate at all three light socket locations or if it just goes through at one location and then runs between the tailgate the light housing. The dealer didn't have any information on that either.

I give up. You guys are hopeless. You want something that looks factory, yet isn't. Happy hunting. :{

The wiring is 3rd Grade at best. If you can't figure it out, quit your whining and let the pros handle it (the dealer :-laf :-laf ). Otherwise quitherbichen and get on with life,  :D You ani't-a-gonna ruin yer truck with a few 3M gel-filled connectors, just try it, they DO WORK.

Sorry to be so blunt, but it's not a complex problem. If you want FACTORY look, you HAVE TO GO WITH FACTORY PARTS ON THIS ONE!!!!!!

I forgot to mention this earlier but the trailer lightbar only requires one small hole for the wires to be run through. No "template" or anything else to worry about. Just measure or "eyeball" to find center and "away you go"...
