Can anybody help me find some more info on the tailgate light install?
I wasn't fast enough to get one of the kits so I bought the parts that were listed in the TDR #28. The problem is that does not include the harness adapter included in the kit. I was going the plug it in place of the license plate light and ScotchLok the license plate light into the harness but the connectors don't match! I want to do a neat job so I can remove the tailgate if I have to. Any help would be appreciated!

<font color=blue>I would also be interested in this. I emailed Mopar4less 4 times on this and they keep telling me that the kit is no longer available. You have to buy it "in pieces". Anyhow I never got around to it so now is as good as anytime, anyone? #ad

I just installed my light bar on the tailgate and I did not want to scotch lock the wires because I am always removing the tailgate. I went down to the electronics shop that I frequent and they had the 2-way connecters where one connecter is female and the other is male so the hot lead is always insulated even when the connecters are pulled apart. I soldered the wires into the licence plate circuit and cut the existing connecter off the light bar and soldered another 2way plug in its place.
I now plug the light bar into its own receptical thats waterproof and can take the tailgate off with ease. The best part is that the plugs are real inexpensive... 1. 06$ total.

<font color=blue>The "kit" is nonexhistent now days. This is the reply I got from Mopar4less

You can make the "kit" from these pieces according to them :
  • Housing #55054821 runs $3. 50
  • Wiring #55054824 runs $28. 00
  • Lens #55054823 runs $12. 50
  • Screws are generic and not serviced by Chrysler

To order please call 1-800-748-2139 ext. 121

    I haven't ordered it yet.

I had to assemble the light setup from all the required pieces since the 'kit' is no longer available. For power,I tapped into the license light kinda like Paul did. At work,we have these odd two piece scotch loks that come apart like a male/female connector,so I used these so I can remove tha tailgate. However,I'm going to solder in a real two-pin connector soon... I don't like scotch loks on the exterior wiring of the vehicle.

I just picked up the parts this afternoon from the dealership. The guy behind the counter said that the $90. 00 price was outrageous and only charged me wholesale, $60. 00 out the door. Got home and realized there were no screws.

Does anyone know how long the screws are supposed to be? <font color=blue>

The lights socket/mounts are made by GROTE and you can buy all the lights/sockets for alot less. The wiring will be up to you. I installed mine below the tailgate between the bumper and gate, and a few on the running boards #ad

I finally installed my lites using 1/4" insulated spade lugs and splices into the license plate lite. I can now disconnect if I want to and the wires are tucked up high. I can't remember the length of the screws I bought but I took the plastic housing to my local hardware store and picked out some Phillips head stainless sheet metal screws that were about 1/2" longer than the housing. I painted the heads black with some touch-up paint and everything looks fine.

Interesting, my lights from D/C said Hella... and I used #8 stainless screws 1+1/4 long. They were already painted black.

A co worker has a '94 3500 and needed some replacement lights that had burned out. A friend of his works a OTR truck shop and had replacements by the case full. Seems they keep these to replace the ones on the trucks before they inspect them. The guy gave my coworker about a dozen amber and red ones.

I haven't noticed these same lights on the big rigs before. Anyone know of any that run these?

I have the instruction sheet that came with the kit. I assume someone already gave the part number to there local dealer to do a search. Mine was located in another state. <center><img src=http://freeweb. pdq.net/rbhim1/dodge.jpg>
