I have a 2500 and would like to install the tailgate lights that the 3500's have mainly for increased visibility. Should I also get the factory wire/harness or just tap into the rear license plate lights?

My 2500 had a place to plug it in right by the plate light wiring, if yours doesn't just splice it. The lights come with enough wire and the plug. I picked up two sets for $5 each at the junkyard and gave one away, dealer wanted something like $54 for it.

I called all of the local bone yards in my area and none of them have any 3500's available. The dealer wants $80. 00 for the lights and mounting hardware. They've got to be out of their minds!!!! If any of you have or know of someone who has a set of these lights for sale, drop me an e-mail. I'm also going to post a want add in the classifides section. Thanks for the replys.

Problem is the non-OEM lights don't fit the contour of the tailgate well. That cheap piece of plastic is a custom fit. Best bet for a used one is finding someone who forgot to lower his tailgate when disconnecting a 5th wheel...

I have a 5th wheel and stored my tail gate , and its required for all one ton up have three lights. I made a steel tail gate with a notch using 1"angle open side to truck and in middle used 1x2 angle dubble face to rear this made a place 1"deep and 4"wide this made a recessed place to mount three two bulb red clearance lights from wal-marts they had only one wire and used a common ground I cut the tab for the ground a added a wire making a two wire set up mounted the three lights about two inches appart in the recess and added a two wire pull apart plug to match the one on the truck allso from wally world works good has ben on over two years only one bulb burned out so far . The same could work and look good on a regular tail gate ,the Oem one is only a junk plastic strip . The dubble light from wally cost less than three dollars each and will work with one bulb in each light until you can get a replacement lights are about 3" long 11/2wide , Look good and do not cost much. I would like to suggest LED's if you are going to make your own harness with aftermarket lights. LED's have a great life span and brightness. Do a search here for LED's or a web search. You should find alot of vendors for LED's. The are a bit expensive up front, but unless you damage one, you should never have to replace it.
