I need some help/suggestions. I have a 2500 short box sport. I really like the look of the 3500 tailgate (not the sport) with the plastic trim and 3 marker lights.

If I wanted to do this to my truck, where do I go to get the parts and how do I wire it in? Anybody done this?:( Anybody think this is a really dumb idea or that it will look like complete horse crap? Let me know. Thanks for the input, TDR rules.

You can get all of the parts from Dodge (pretty pricey) or try to junkyard 'em off a wreck.

Your tailgate has the holes in it already near the center to run the wiring thru, and the wire ties into the truck harness for the tag lights behind the bumper.

Go for it!

I picked up two from the same junkyard, $5 each. You almost have to use the Dodge made setup because of the uneven mounting surface.

I got mine at the dealer!

I boght mine at the dealer. It is pricey, about $65. :{

But they sure do look good. :D

Just a side note, it's not a single assembly. You buy the wiring harness, lights and light bar separately.

go for it!Oo.

I wanted LED lights and I wanted them on the bed just above the liscense plate but the clearance factor was a pain to get around. After looking at several trucks stops and semi truck light catalogs, I saw a neat light strip on the back of a 2002 Chevy Dually. So I went and bought one for 17 dollars at GM Parts coutner and it fits perfectly. It is really bright and hidden until lights are turned on. I can e-mail pics if needed.

Does the plastic trim just glue onto the tailgate or something? and is there a clip back there or do I need to get out the dikes and start cutting and soldering?

thanks for everyone's help,

J

can be done......

Ok- I bought the "bar" from the dealer to mount the lights on, which, by the way, are made by Truck-Lite. Of course, I chickened out and just couldn't drill holes in that mint tailgate!!:eek: Soooooo... ..... I mounted them on the bed, above the bumper. They just clear the tailgate when it's opened. If you take careful measurements, they'll work. Tie them into the licsence plate lights. Hopefully this pic. will work. I've since replaced them with L. E. D. 's- need to update pics. ~~Jim. #ad

The bar is attached with three self tapping screws, put silicone caulking on the screws before turning in to prevent rust in the gate. On the older trucks at least the holes for the wiring are already there, one is just hidden behind the plastic trim piece directly behind where the wires exit the bar. The other is at the middle bottom, the electrical connector fits though the holes easily.
