2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tailgate restraining cables

Where is a good place to get replacement tailgate cables for a 97 Dodge? I broke one and the other is about to go also from corrosion. Dealer wants $23 per each out the door!!! Baling wire is looking better and better!!!

On edit: I ended up getting a used tailgate for mine and took the better of the 2 sets off prior to trade. They are in good condition.

I can't beat that. I got mine from Ebay. About $16 for the pair and they're supposed to be "new and improved". Jim

Brother got a set off ebay after the old ones broke from corrosion with a concrete piece pipe about 8" in dia and 5 ft long half way on it. Needless to say it made 2 pretty big dents in the other side of it where it fell and hit the bumper but didnt break the paint so now its just a conversation point.

I saw where GM had a recall on their cables a couple of years ago, and they replaced them with stainless steel cables, so I am trying to locate something like that for my truck without any luck so far.



Has anyone found stainless cables for the Dodge?

I just bought one at NAPA, over $20!!!!! That was to replace one I bought at NAPA 5 years ago to replace the originals which lasted 7 years.

Mine lasted almost 13 years. Can't complain. I dropped a tire/wheel on the tailgate and snapped both of them simultaneously. SNAP... CLUNK. :-laf

Pep Boys was the cheapest at $6. 50 each and Napa was most expensive at $16. 00

each!!! Same part number at each location.
