I read the other day that the 06 1500 has a tailgate spoiler which is supposed to help with gas mileage along with the cylinder deactivation. I believe what I read also stated that the spoiler was not included on the 2500 and 3500 models. If the spoiler helps fuel mileage why is it not included on the heavy duty Dodge? Is this something that we might be able to add to 3rd generation heavy duty trucks? Has anyone actually seen one of these spoilers? I have an 05 2500 with the Sport package and really would like a spoiler if it is something that makes the truck look cool.

I saw them they look more like something to protect the top of the tail gate, might be good for that not for looks or anything else, my opinon :-laf

Almost like the ones on the chevys. I saw one today and I was thinking the same thing. Looks like 4 screws hold it on. I would like to take one off to see if it has inserts also. If the price was right I would try one. It would cover one dent I have!

Because I am installing a spray-in under rail bed liner, I would need a cap for the top of my tailgate (I always have something on it, the last couple trucks its been my plastic bed liner). Next time I am at the dealer I will check it out. I would prefer something shiny, are the ones on the 1500 all black plastic?

Rear 2006, 1500 Tail Gate Spoiler

Hello,

I live in Houston, and get to see the new models fairly early when they come out. I noticed what I would call the new tail gate protector right off the bat. Went straight to my local Dodge dealer to inquire about one. Your question as to why they are not offered on our Heavy Duty trucks is because supossedly, the new 2006 Heavy Duty, 2500 & 3500 models are wider than say my 2004. 5 2500. That is what the parts man said. I asked him to look it up, which he tried to do. But there was a foot note indicating they are for the 2006 1500 trucks only. Personally I would like to add one. With the extended lip protruding towards the back, it would help prevent rubbing the paint off when running w/tailgate down and using a ratchet strap to secure my 4wheeler.

Regards, Ralph

Got a link? I would like to see what it looks like.

Somebody needs to confirm if the 06 1500 tail gate is the same part number as 03-06 2500's for it to fit.

Matt,

Don't have a link. But at least here in Houston, they are starting to show up on all the Dodge dealer lots. The parts man did confirm though that only the 2006 Heavy Dutys were widned. (Funny, I never heard a word about the new ones being widened). According to him, 2005 on back 1500 & Heavy Dutys shared the same body. So it should work. But, one thing that concerns me, is the mounting procedure. I'll bet that these new 2006 Heavy Dutys have pre-drilled holes with fastners incorporated withing the tailgate. Otherwise, just drilling holes into the thin sheet metal and using sheet metal screws to secure the tail gate protector, I think will result in denting the tailgate.

For the money I would go with the diamond plate bedrail cover, sold separate for tailgate or entire rail, black or polished. check (AUTOPARTSWAREHOUSE. COM) great company to order from :D

Tail gate cover

I ordered one it came in about 3 days. It fit perfectly on my 06 dually. The width is the same as the inside dimension of the box. Other wise it sits about

1/2 in. in on each side of the tailgate. It comes with four inserts that you install with a special tool they give you. They flare out inside the tail gate.

Then you simple use the screws supplied with it to attach. The only hitch was that the screw that drives the insert or the expander part on the inserts, is too short and I had to use another screw I happen to have.

Other than that it fits perfect. I really needed the protection for the tail gate. Oo.

It looks a little like the Chebby one, but it has these aero drag breaker uppers on the top. And a little more wingee. Hows them for tech words with no pic's !

Yes Matt you can. It literally is Dodge's equivalent to the tail gate protectors Chevy uses on their trucks. To me it is a far cry better than the after market ones available. It is a harder plastic, specifically designed for the contours of our tailgates and, with the little wing if you will, for lack of a better word, allows you to use a ratchet strap to hold something in place with the tail gate down. You attach one of the hooks to the receiver hitch safety chain hole. That little wing keeps the strap from rubbing on your tail gate and removing paint as you run down the road.

YEah they look just like the plastic things the GM trucks have on them... more of tailgate protector I think as the lip is only a couple inches deep and not going to put any downdraft on truck to make a difference in my opinion... but then again what do i know.

I just put a line-x spary in bedliner in my 2500... . did bed and on top of bed rails. Guy sprayed tailgate with access plate off separately and then reattached... . and rolled spray over lip of tailgate and down back edge of bed and bottom of tailgate so it is well protected when lowered. He did a phenomenal job of taping it off and making the bed rail portions straight as an arrow and it looks sharp. Many have already told me they thought it sets the truck off better... .

Yes, I am pleased as well.....
