I am about to have a spray-in liner(line x) done to my 01 LB my question is has anyone also done the tail gate and if so how is it working out? Thanks in advance Doc Nielsen
Doc, I had Linex done to a Toyota Tundra, they alway do the tail gate. They even took the screws out that gave access to the release mechanism and sprayed them separately so if it was ever necessary you could get inside the tail gate.
I have the spray in liner and had them spray tailgate; on both the side rails and the tailgate, I had them spray over the top and like it very well. Its been on over a year and is holding up like new.
A note of caution on spraying the tailgate. If the liner material is built up too thick on the outside edges of the tail gate it can interfere with the latch mechanism and cause a binding situation. If the material is too thick the bed portion of the latch will require a spacer underneath it to achieve normal operation.
I had my RhinoLiner done with the tailgate too and they do a beautiful job cutting it in so it closes perfectly. As so long as you go to a decent shop you dont have to worry. Make SURE you see there work before they touch your truck.
Also have them put a thin layer on the section between the back edge of the bed and the bumper, and the very bottom of the tailgate. Rocks and other crap in the bed gets in that area when you lower the tailgate and makes a real mess of things when you try to get it out. Rhino Liner over the rails and like it.
