I read about this in another thread, but I could not find it with the d@m# search engine.
Someone had made mention that the leak from a tailshaft housing on the five speeds is sometimes caused by a problem with the vent from that housing. I found the vent last night, and the tube ran down to the skid plate under the transfer case.
Why is the tailshaft housing vent routed down to the skidplate when the gearbox is vented with a 1" long tube and check valve? Also, if I can draw air through the tube and blow air through the fitting in the skidplate, isn't the vent system working properly?
There is a new seal in the tailshaft housing (from the previous owner), so I am trying the vent option before I try another seal.
Thanks. Eric
