Well... Got the truck back this afternoon.

Dealer replaced the CP3 stating that it was leaking... also replaced the coolant hose (edit... looked at invoice... they just tightend the clamp... ) in the back that seems to leak too.

The dealer warrenty cost for the CP3 is 1820 bucks plus 3 or so hrs to replace.

The service writer said that if I wanted to buy the pump and have it installed... somewhere like 2200 for the pump and 300 labor... she said bills for this work usually come to 2500 for customer pay.

I asked if the pump was bad or just leaking. She goes on to say that the pump was not flowing enough and that they had to replace it... humm. She then says that they have a new part number because the "old one would not flow enough fuel"

Umm. . OK.

Also... from now on I will change my own fuel filter... 83. 87 with tax!!! 31. 69 for filter and 45 for labor... I'm callin Geno's in the am to get some filters...

As for the oil change... sticker in window now says come in in 3000 miles... . old one said 5000 miles.

Oh yeah... truck seems to run the same... will check the white smoke situation in the am.

Oh well... at least I did not have to pay for that pump!!

whats a FCA?

An FCA is a Fuel Control Actuator. You can see it as a small cylinder with a pigtail running to it mounted in the back side (firewall side) of the CP-3 injection pump.

Its job is to control how much fuel enters the high pressure pumping chambers, and how much is returned to the tank (via the overflow valve).

I just had a FP with an isolator installed.

After install, the gauge shows a rock steady 7# whether idling or WOT.

Should the isolator going south, be something I should look out for?

my idle psi is around 14-15psi... it started reading 5 psi and wouldnt move then dropped to 3 and then to 0... . just keep an eye on it and every time you open then hood... just give everything a once over and you should be ok.

From what Iv seen so far, it stays the same whether its idle or WOD. 7#

Maybe changing the filter may change it. I dunno.

just noticed the bottom of my CP3 is nice and wet with fuel (50K mi). I have an edge juice with attitude, guess I should remove it befor bringing the truck in since it does modify pump pressure. The dealer would never believe it but it is set at level 1 99% of the time and never been above 3. I am not familliar with these CP3's, are their seels in the housing or just a machined surface between the alluminium and iron that would leak?

There are seals at each end of the shaft and o-rings on the ports between the machined surfaces. Thats generally where they seep in cold weather then quit when it warms up.

STAR generally quit auhtorizing replacement CP-3's for seeping. You have to have some other complaint or problem that could be traced to the pump before they authorize a replacement.

Try it and see what happens. You will get the same pump as the one you have now and there is a good chance it will leak again next winter. Did the same on mine. Found the leak in February and had it replaced under warranty. Leaks quit until the following December then showed up again. Been running it 2 winters seeping every time the temps drop. No issues yet. :)
