Am I nuts?

I bought some Westin chrome nerf bars yesterday. Put one side on, stepped back to admire my handywork (after a beer or two), and YUCK. I really didn't like them. I'm not quite too sure what exactly it is, but they make the truck look like it sits lower to the ground and is shorter. I wandered around the truck for 15 minutes, scratching, mulling, drinking, talking to myself, and mumbling without a point.

They go back to the store tomorrow.

Anybody else had this problem? I loved them on my Chevrolet. They just looked weird. Maybe it was the light.

Nerf bars.

Just about everybody has them in this part of the country, looks strange to see a truck with out them. Maybe you should try them again. just M. O. :)

Maybe it's bacause the chrome gives you the visual effect that the white truck body is lower to the ground. Maybe try a set of black ones? I have black ones and it didn't give the effect, but my Mopar splash guards sure gave me the 'lowered' effect because the wheel wells don't look so open anymore.

Then again maybe it's the beer. I sure feel a foot taller after a few! :D:D (I'm vertically challenged);)

I agree, I don't think the bars look good. It makes the truck look lower. I don't need them to get in my truck and why spend the money. I did put rear mud flaps on mine but they protect the fender and mine are shorter with a chrome strip at the bottom so they don't impact the looks of the truck in a negative way. Spend the money on something you would like on the truck. Plus almost everybody puts them on their truck so it is nice being a little different. :)

Black Westins

Lots of Rams around here with Westins too. I got black because there's not much crome on a Sport plus, they were cheaper. :D :D

I have to agree. I added a pair of Smittybilts to my truck this summer and really don't care for the look much. I added them to aid in the entry/exit of my two daughters, they work fine for that but ... .

1) 3" diameter is too small, 4" would look better IMHO.

2) The truck looks like it sits lower, don't like that most of all.

I guess I should feel bad :) The truck looks better without the step bar so I let my 82 year old mom grab the two grab straps and swing like a monkey to get in and out of the truck. She is a good sport and laughs about it, but keeps asking me when I am going to get her a step stool? Next time I drive up to see her I will throw a small step stool in the back. I can understand why people need them on the truck for the short, young, and old. But if you don't fit in that group or you don't transport that group very often then I would not put them on my truck, my opinion :D

I didn't like my black Westins after I first put them on, it took a lot of getting used to. I hate running boards and anything else that even smacks of that kinda crap. Didn't feel like I had a choice, all the women, little kids, and sissies that I'm occasionally forced to give a ride to, whined incessantly about how hard it was to get in the truck.

I don't even use the driver's side bar to get in, I just step over it...

I'll eventually take them off, I suppose. A Sidewinder step on the sissy side of the truck was my original intention, and I might still go that route.

Bars too

I have had them on all my other trucks and will get them on my 01. 5 quad/short. My wife like the idea of not haveing to get a saftey belt to climb up and in. My 2 cents is, they are great protection from doors and the outdoors. Great to help in washing the top and windows too. We all probly hate to see our trucks dirty. My color has always been black to go with all the accent parts on the body. Chrome is to bright.

I put them on my truck because I found myself sliding in and out on my leather seats. I did not want to put a wear spot in the seat. At first I was not real crazy about them, but I am getting used to them.

I like 'em!

I have chrome one's on my wife's 96 2wd gasser Ram and black one's on my 2000 Ram 4X4 CTD. They are awsome.

Take another look.

Do any of these mount to the frame rail or do they all mount to the cab mounts? I had a set of smittybilt's years ago, mounted to the frame rail... made them super strong, bought a set of grizzly oval tubes for my ram they hang from cab mounts=cheap and chintzy. Would like another set of smittybilts to match my triple/double full bed length roll bar

Nerf Bars.....Use a goose instead

I had Nerf bars on my Bronco for protection from car doors. I got to watch a woman w/brand new caddy THROW her car door open on my black nerf bar. She was totally PO'd because she literally totaled her door. As for my Ram I won't be puttin' the nerfs on... ... . I prefer to use a goose to help my fiance' in my truck.

Eric :D ;)

Goose, LMAO

What happens when she jumps up and bangs her head on the cab, then we will see who gets Goosed. hehehe:D
