2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Talk about some messed up front brakes!

Here's the deal... . I changed out the calipers, and pads about 3 months ago, and everything was fine for a bit... I got on the brakes hard one day, and since then, it has pulled to the right... . before, it pulled to the left, and it got scary... this morning, the road was a little wet, and when I hit my brakes, the front passenger side wheel locked up... I only have RW ABS, and I do not know what else to look for... the rear brakes dont even really grab, and I have not been able to find the load proportioning valve. Could this possibly be caused by air in the lines?? someone please chime in, as it is annoying, as well as unsafe.

It doe not sound like air in the lines. The brakes would be very mushy if you had air in the lines. When you reassembled the calipers did you grease the slide pins real good? Also where the two rails the caliper rides on rusted? Either problem can cause the rotor to hang up and cause the pull to one side or another. I would pull calipers and regrease the pins and clean off the slides with some emory cloth or fine grit sandpaper. I use one of the 3m abrasive disc's (2"or 3") and clean the slides till they shine each time I replace front brake pads.

Also it you have many miles on the rig your brake hoses could be failing. By that I mean the insides of them. What happens is that the pressure is allowed to apply the brakes, but the restriction in the hose doesn't allow the calipers to fully release. This causes drag on the pads - hense heat. When you apply the brakes the cool side will grab more till it warms up to the temp of the other side.



If it isn't your pins I'd check here. I had to do this with mine.
