Who owns a drilling company down south... he has several newer Dodge trucks he uses as service/support vehicles that are typically loaded heavy in at least one direction of travel. Other than fighting the wander... he reported that he has done zero motor or trans work on any of them. He is very pleased with the performance and reliability.

This leads me to believe more and more what has been stated by others... work them hard and they are more reliable. I have seen his trucks and what they go through more than once... drilling is not an easy life for a truck by any means. They have obviously held up better than mine!!

My brother in law has a chassis cab 3500. I believe it's a 07. It was the first year of the 6. 7 Cummins. His truck is always loaded down for his plumbing business. It has a large box on the back that is twice has high as the cab. He has not had any of the problems commonly associated with the DPF on the pickups that are run empty. He has had the software updates and TSBs done but that's it. One mechanic at the dealer was amazed but then also said it's probably because it's being worked all of the time due to the load he hauls around.

What you members have reported is exactly what I have experienced with the three Dodge Rams I have owned. I know that I have frequently angered several members when they report a long list of failures experienced with their trucks and I reply with a report that I have experienced none of the same problems.

The Cummins engine and the Dodge 3500 (don't know about 2500) are rugged, durable, and reliable in my experience. I should add, my trucks have been 2wd and highway driven so I don't have an opinion about 4x4 trucks.

I would wager to say that the majority on the hotshot trucks in my area (Louisiana and Mississippi) are Dodge. There must be a reason. Neither of my trucks ever haul anything. Trouble free so far. On the other hand, I have been working in California until our rigs get back to working and the company gave me a 2006 F-250 to use. Talk about gutless. Makes me real proud to have the Dodge/Cummins trucks. Cheers!
