New Arctic Fox - Old Lance

Flagg Ranch Resort, Wyo

Does anyone know the laws on towing a car behind a trailer? I'm going to move from Co. to Pa. this summer, and I only want to make the trip once. As a last resort, I will fly back to Denver to drive my car across the country, but I'm trying to figure something else out. Thanks for any information.

Pulling doubles

At a minimum you must have a commercial drivers license, medical card and "doubles" endorsement. Maximum length is 65'. Also do a search for more info.

Hire a college kid...

You might consider offering a college kid $100 to drive along/behind you on the trip. The kid gets home for the summer for free, and you get the car delivered. There are all sorts of "rides offered/wanted" bulletin boards at the colleges. Just print up a flyer and post it.

I live in NY state. Pay all my fuel bills and I'll take a week off work and follow you to PA (with your car in tow).

Check with each state you are traveling thru. Here in Tx no special license is required and any combo is legal up to 65 ft. rvsafety.com is not accurate so you will need to check with each states' DOT. I once drug a car with the front wheels on a dolly behind my 5er from Lubbock to Austin. Never was challenged about my triple tow.

Me too

I have a post here on the same subject. The link above is a little inaccurate. What I did was call the State Police/ Highway Patrol and find out if it was possible/legal.

for intance, I found out that Maryland will allow it, but only if the combined length is under 55'. And Virginia said ABSOLUTELY NOT. Not even possible to buy a permit.

Out west they just won't even bother even if there is a law against it (usually). But the general trend out here in the Eastern States, they are just too uptight.

Good luck! As stated above, depending on when you are doing this, there are several of us here that are willing to help.
