I know some in this forum have had occasion to remove the top plate from the VP-44 when using aftermarket wire piercing covers - where can the proper 5-point tamper-proof TORX bit of the proper size be bought?

All I can find locally are 6-point type, and various internet suppliers don't provide enought detailed info or clear pics of what they offer. I *do* want the proper bit, rather than using visegrips on them...

Any help?

Any tool truck should have it or be able to get one for you. The 5 point torx bits are called "Torx Plus", so just ask for a tamper proof torx plus. I don't know what size the one you want is though  .

Or call Piers, that's where I got mine. It cost more that way, but they'll know exactly what you want.

That's a help Matt - serenity of isolated rural life is nice - but sometimes there's a price to be paid, and in this case, nobody local has or is knowledgeable as to what I need.

The "TORX Plus" designation for the 5-point bits helps, now all I need is the size, and maybe I can find an internet source - maybe even an assortment kit would be a good bet...

SUPER - THANKS!

Now to find a reasonable source - all I've found so far is a SK set for nearly $100 - not quite what I have in mind - but I'll keep looking...

I got mine from Blue chip. It cost all of $8. 45. I'm sure you could save a few bucks looking around some more but we are talking pretty small change.
