Drove a Ford with a 5.9

Had a DMAX try me on for size yesterday. I was cruising through town and this old guy pulls up beside me and starts the little "goosing" deal. Got on the bypass, stopped at a light next to him. Got to admit, he jumped me pretty good from a start. At the next light we rolled through at about 40 mph and the story was a little different. I was in fifth when I went through the light. At 80 I was about three truck lengths ahead. Don't know if his truck defueled at that point or he deployed a chute but he suddenly backed way off. So whoever he was, I'm sure that he's wondering what happened. After reading all the hype about those things, I wouldn't have thought I would have spanked him but I did. However, in all fairness, his Automatic sure got the best of me from a dead standstill. But I expected that. And for you Cheby owners, no I don't have the VIN of that truck.

HMMMPFFffff - without that VIN and the name/address of the local GM dealer - as well as signed affadavits and photos, it's nothing but a baseless RUMOR!;) :p

Pretty hard for these Cummins with AT and STOCK torque converters to stay with the later Ford, and no doubt, the GM V8 diesels for the FIRST few feet...

My buddy has a chipped '99 Ford PS, and my '91 Cummins will quickly lose several lengths off the line, then stay right with him from there on. Obviously, that initial lead when EMPTY and from a dead stop would QUICKLY disappear if we were loaded and pulling a steep grade!

AND, if I ever get one of Bill K's TC's installed, it's all OVER for the Ford and GM rigs even from a stoplite!;) :p

I don't have the VIN but it was in Milledgeville, GA at about 11:30 Sunday morning and the Cheby was a silver one. It ain't the startin' I'm worried about, it's the going down the road. Know what I mean? This was by no means a poke at the DMAX. I think it does show where the power lies in the engines and the differences on how it gets to the ground show up.

Alan,

That's the adjustment I'm going through right now coming from our V-10/automatic/3. 54 to the ETH/DEE/4. 10. Man, all I'm doin' is jammin' gears and I ain't goin' nowhere! This thing isn't a drag racer like that V-10 was, but get it in 5th or 6th and stand on it - now we're talking! :) Can't wait to get the Edge EZ that's sitting in the garage installed. :D

Rusty

By the way, I still have the V-10. Wonder if Mr. Duramax would like a little of that Mopar action at the next stoplight?? :p

Normally, I won't race. This guy kept looking in the mirror and crossing the line on me before we got to the first light. At first my wife was fussing as me until I explained how much his truck cost and that he was going to continue harassing us until one of us showed the other one up. She asked why his Dodge cost so much more. I said, "Cause it's a Chevy". Then she understood. :p

Good luck with the EZ. You'll be surprised at what 300 hp feels like when you are towing or just pass somebody. :D :D :D :D

I have the ez and 275's. I have whooped a couple of Powerpokes but haven't found a dura-max that want's to play yet. May-be that people down here buy real diesels and that is why I see mostly ctd trucks down here.
