When filling up how long do you let fuel settle? In my last diesel and now my new one I don't have the patience, so I give it one extra shot after first shut off and that's it. But I don't know how full it really is... ... ... . ? I've heard of some guys slow fill for 5 more minutes?

Laramie,

I've gone both ways; standing around until I've just about filled the 34 gal puppy to the limit, and filling it to the click and forgetting it. What I do now is fill it to the next nearest whole $ after the automatic shutoff and leave it at that. I guess I'm too lazy to put in one of those new fangled tank vents that let you fill the thing right to the brim. :-laf

I do the same thing... Before the fuel tank vent mod it was about a 20-30 minute process (or so it seemed)... I LOVE my fuel tank vent mod!

Funny you bring this up with all of these fuel mileage threads popping up in the last few days.

I'm sure most of these high mileage numbers are guys using the overhead. The others dont realize that calculating one tank by hand is basically meaningless.

I can usually get 1 gallon in after clickoff without spoon feeding it. But some pumps foam more, LSD/ULSD foams different ... ... ... . bio foams different.

1 gallon makes a big difference on 1 tank ... ... ..... not much on a 5 tank average.

3rd endoursement for the Fuel cell Vent Kit... . takes a couple of hours to install (by yourself) and saves 10 minutes on every fill up! Fills right to the neck with no delay... and I now have a 39 gal. tank!

When the pump clicks off, I quit, and then come back in 4 weeks and do it again.

I want what you got. Last time I went to Cal. I had to fill up twice in the same day.

I have the vent mod also. It usually takes 20 seconds or less to have fuel to the top. Fuel mileage #'s are more consistant also.

Top it off to the next dollar amount, fill it again when the guage reads 1/4 tank. As far as fuel mileage who cares if I wanted great mileage I would have bought a diesel VW. Mine gets 16-18 miles per gallon and as high as 20mpg on a long run if I keep her at 70. For a 8800 lb truck with 4 wheel drive that can pull a big load when I need to-well I think these rigs do pretty well. Run with a V10 or 8. 1 GM and see what they are getting in the miles per gallon department.
