Tank level vs. guage level

I've never run out of fuel,but I ran on empty once for 150 miles. When I finally found an open station with diesel it took 33 gallons to refill. One thing you have to consider is that the tank is rather long,with the pickup and sender on one end,it doesn't take much of an incline to throw the reading off. I usually try to find some diesel when I get below 1/2 tank,that way I don't have to sweat it and it doesn't seem like costs a fortune to fill.

My 96 is way off. I top off the tank around 250-300 miles and it takes around 20-25 gallons.

Same here. I’ve been concerned about the accuracy enough that I now use the trip display to estimate my stops to fuel up. At about 300 miles, I start looking. Generally can get about 17 gallons in at that point. Gauge shows below 1 / 4 at that point. Sometimes the light is on. #ad

If the agravating thing was consistant it wouldn't be so bad. Once when the needle was on empty I put 35 gallons in and another time I put in 29 gallons. Same indication on the gage. The 35 gallon time I thought I had plenty of fuel to get to Garberville (don't laugh Gary!) and when I got there the whole town was closed up and the "you gonna walk" light had been on for some time! The next 70 miles to Eureka were a REAL sweat! It was showing some fuel in the tank most of the way. Other times it shows dead empty and it's not even close. #ad
