Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) tansmission reprogram?!?

My '99 Dodge 2500 Ram PU diesel block cracked which led me to change the engine. Except for the cracked engine, the truck ran fine.



I replaced the '99 with a 2001 Dodge 2500 Ram pu engine. The truck is running but my auto transmission won't go into overdrive, it only goes as far as 3rd gear (55 mph).



A cummins diesel mechanic told me that the transmission needs to be reprogrammed. Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced this before?

Did you keep the wiring on your truck or put the '01 wiring in?

we put the '01 wiring because the '99 wiring didn't line up properly.
