I remember a while back, You could buy an exhaust elbow that had the necessary threads tapped for a pyrometer probe. anyone remember where to get em?

Other than the manifold, if I decide to get an exhaust brake, where else could I mount the probe?

Am I correct in that post turbo temps should not exceed 900 degrees? pre-turbo=1300??

Your factory exhaust elbow has a flat spot cast in it on the side (the side facing away from the engine). There is a dimple in the center of that flat spot for starting a drill. If you're going to install an exhaust brake, BD's exhaust brake elbows come drilled and tapped already for an EGT probe. Other brands of exhaust brakes may also come like this. This is where I have my EGT probe. I like having it there, because I can monitor the temperature of the turbo so I know when it's cooled off enough to shut off the engine. As a way of "playing it safe", I don't let the EGT's get over 800 degrees. Because of the temperature drop where I have my probe, that's the equivalent of 950-1000 degrees in the manifold.
What I'd really like to have is another EGT gauge with the probe in the manifold. It would be interesting to see the differences in temperatures before and after the turbo.

The only place I've seen the elbow is at Geno's. Don't know about BD.

Andy, cruising, about 150 degrees, pulling hard, about 300.

In early Feb I e-mailed Genos about the tapped exhaust elbow and got a reply back that they no longer carry them. "They relied on people to send back their untapped elbows but unfortunately no one ever sent them back and they could not find an adequate supply to keep up the service". I decided to tap the manifold and that was probably a lot easier than removing the elbow.

Removing the elbow is relatively easy and highly recommended if you have an exhaust brake and want to tap the elbow for an EGT probe.

Are the exhaust elbows interchangable between the 12V and 24V engines?? I have an extra tapped elbow for a 12V engine.
