My '99 4x4 SLT QuadCab with 91K miles has a knocking/tapping sound coming up through the driver side floor board. Does not occur all the time ... happens at speed of 45 mph, but more frequently between 55 and 70 mph.

Suspension inspected and appears to be tight. Any similar experience and recommendation what to look at next? Could it be the differential?

I would take a real close look at ALL of the rubber bushings from the track bar, shocks, all the way back to the controll arms, and even the body mounts. Everywhere the front end connects to the frame, there is a bushing. If one is rotted or split, you would feel the tapping.

Then I would have the tires re-balanced.

Check the lower shock mount bolts and make sure they are TIGHT. If you have aftermarket shocks, make sure they tighten the shock and don't just bottom out the bolt without actually tightening the shock.

Thanks for all the advice.

When growing up, my much older brother (+ 18 years) taught me to "if at first you don't succeed, then look for the obvious". Well, I should have listened. After looking at all the drive train mechanicals and not finding anything, I discovered the plastic fender liner was missing the bottom fastener. I replaced the fastener and drove 60 miles with no tapping noise in the floor board. If anything changes, I will re-post with an update. :D

Do you have after market steps? the last 10k miles i have been hearing a knock and squick sound behind the dash, turns out its the support bolt for the step was loose!
