Was wondering if anyone has beat the pump wire problem? I don't know where the wire leads from the vp44 into the rest of the wiring harness. Has anybody tried to trace it to see if there is a better place to tap into it, or possibly into a block or relay of some sort?

Also, is the vp44 included in the 7 yr/100k warranty? Or is it canceled at 36k like most of the stuff?

Thanks

The vp is covered within the 100,000 mile engine warranty. As far as the tap goes, its hard to say. Some guys are using a Blue Chip pump cover, and some are soldering the connection. I havent heard of a terminal or a block connection being used.

I would say 95% of the dealers will void your vp/engine warranty if/when they discover a tapped vp. In fact, a while ago there was a bulletin issued to dealers for them to look for tapped pump wires on suspected modified trucks that come in for work. (Just a heads up for the new comers)

The fueling circuit in the injector pump is tapped by the the larger fueling boxes to provide more fueling that what can be accomplished through the ECM. The dealer look for this as an obvious sign of BOMBing since this could cause the VP44 to fail.

There is no other place to tap into that wire other than to use the blue chip cover. You are intercepting the signal from the computer on top of the VP44 to the solenoid that's in the middle of the fuel lines that run to the injectors. It has to be there, after the computer on the VP44. The blue chip cover has a pin that touches down right where that wire connects to the circuit board. That wire is only about an inch and a half long.

Blue Chip replacement cover works great. I was concerned about the cheap wire taps or possibly damaging the wire (as well as telltale marks... )

100K warranty

What is this 100k engine warranty?

The Dodge ******* here says I didn't have one if it was not purchased separately. Is this correct info?

Each Cummins engine in a Dodge truck has a 100K mile warranty. It does not need to be purchased seperately. I'd be sure to set your dealer straight about that one.

Dodge has a 100K extended warranty for the rest of the truck, and that is a purchased option.

I started with the scotch-lock connector that came with my Comp box, then soldered the wire so I naver have to worry about it again.

My truck is an '01, and it didn't come with the 100K mile warranty  But, I have 83K miles on the truck now anyway, so no worries...
