Tatooing the dog.

I wanted to get a lifetime dog license for the latest canine in my managerie. Lifetime license requires either a tatoo or a microchip. I called up this groomer that happens to do tatoos as well. Or at least used to. PA passed a law that only vets can do tatoos and under a local at that. So, instead of 20 bucks, I had to spend more (wife took the dog so I did not see the bill yet). Dog comes home all groggy, etc. the usual symptoms from being put under.



I have been to busy lately but I need to check this out. I know tatooing is not pleasent for the dog but geez! A muzzle and ten minutes and it's all over except for some follow up skin care. Non of this groggy, upset gut stuff. I just don't get it.

My dog got a chip when she was a pup. I don't think they had to put her under.

Wife did not want the chip injected. I pick carefully what I want to argue about. You know how that goes.



All they do is put some numbers inside one of the rear legs where their is minimal hair. No big deal.

I have another idea. How about installing a Lo-Jack chip. Then not only will the chip be for identity purposes, you could track'em. Good for those pesky wanderers.

More fuel + more air = More exhaust, and a lower note on that exhaust. Not reccomended for dogs

Told a dog breeder friend the Mother / Bitc*h joke, she got a kick out of and also said she quit using tattoos because they blur over time and become impossible to read. Now uses a chip.

Freeze Brand

One of my friends that hunts Pigs alot with dogs and is also a rancher uses a freeze brand on the pups left front shoulder. He uses some kind of numbing medicine. He has Cattle Heelers and some Catahoula crosses, all with short hair. Uses the same brand on his dogs that he uses for his cattle. Looks awesome, almost no pain for the dog... beside the shot to numb the skin and is permanent. I dont know where he ordered the miniature brands from but its orginal! Ill try and snap some pictures next time im out on his ranch.

The same reason someone brands any other animal. For Ownership. Living on a round island hunting dogs travel alot more and farther than you would like sometimes. When you see what looks like your dog in the back of someone elses dog cage its normally hard to ask them to look for a tattoo in the ear or on inside the thigh. Even harder to get them to take them to the vet so they can run the scanner for the chip on them. With that freeze brand the dogs never get mixed up and nobody can claim ownership. When you live 3000 miles from any large continent people over here tend to do some strange things. However some of these strange things work very well although the sound very funny at times.

The county treasurer's office calls me. Seems the vet's office mucked up the papers which I had sent via US mail. No vet's official business number and signed by a technician not the vet. I don't know how they knew that one. All this for 170 bucks?



This one has me motivated. I need to track down just who thought this one up. As I said in my original post, previously, I would have had it done for 20 bucks at this dog groomer's office.
