Tax credit for owning a diesel ??

Right before i bought my diesel { about a year ago}, i read somewhere on this site about getting a tax credit {refund, deduction} for owning an alternative fuel vehicle. I've done a search for it with no luck. Does anyone know what forms or how i do this? I believe it was around a $200 credit. Anyone have any info on this?

Sorry, but I don't think diesel is considered an alternative fuel.

I got mine, $198. 00, back in 96. This is from TDR Issue 11. I believe this is no longer in effect. Sorry for the lousy image.

I had long since forgotten about that, but I got it for a little Isuzu pickup I used to drive. I haven't seen anything about it recently, but will double check w/accountant. Ray

Have not gotten it when I got to our accountant. Never have and probably never will.

I got mine for my '95. I think you have to do it for the tax year you bought the truck.

Your allowed to go back 3 years according to the TDR article. You would have to file a tax amendment for the year you purchased your truck.

Here is a link to Form 4136. It doesn't say anything about tax credits for buying alternate fuel vehicles. The form is for credits for using road taxed fuel for off road use.

Heard that tax credit was repealed back in 1996. Oh well... couldn't hurt to try !

I got my $198. 00 Tax credit too in '95. It was a one time only exemption for buying your first diesel powered vehicle.



I read somewhere that they did away with it?

I believe it was repealed in 96 as DStevenson mentioned. I use to carry a lot of the forms around with me. Whenever I would run into someone with a diesel, I would ask if they knew about it. If not, I would give them a form. Made a lot of friends that way. Not to many people knew about it. I only found out about it from my TDR subscription.
