Taxes on 03 Trucks

Bought a Truck 2003 In oklahoma, Went ot get my Tag in Kansas where i Live. Tax People charged me taxes on $4500. 00 incentitives That Dodge gave me off the total price on the truck. I hadn't planned on that in the Budget. Thought i'd say something about it and at least you can check in your state about this tax business. . Bill

Same as when you trade in, taxed on the price before the trade.

Same thing in VA. Any way they can get their grubby paws on your money will work for them. They also tap into our Federal wildlife fund to make up for general fund shortfalls.

Some states tax before the trade (total price) and some after the trade (difference price). CO and AZ only tax the difference. It's an incentive to trade rather than sell by private party becasue of the tax difference, especialy when you trade a new vehicle with a high tradein value. Of course, the dealers know this, and can offer you even less for the trade.



The $2500 incentive is a rebate (I think), and can therefore be taxed. If you buy a $100 wigit at the store that has a $10 rebate, you pay tax on $100, not $90.

Texas taxes on the after-trade difference. I'm not sure if I got taxed for the rebates on my truck or not - I was thinking I paid tax on the net amount I paid for the truck, after rebates. I sold my 1996 outright, so the trade wasn't an issue in my particular case (although the dealer tries to justify giving you next to nothing for a trade because of "all the money you'll save on sales tax!")

More taxes

Boy you guy's blow my mind , one of you said they get into our hunting funds in VA, That makes me mad, I'm a avid Hunter and fisherman. I was on the Lake today doing the crappie. and that reminds me, I'm going to the tax adjuster tomorrow because my 12 yr old boat taxes are 320 dollars and they came down only 10. 00 dollars from last year. I'm a mind to take it to Missouri and register it there. My total Taxes in Ks on the truck was $1358. 00 on $ 11,100 difference plus the 4500 rebate. What do you think of that????
