Need help with 04 auto trans issues

The TC cooler has a line going behind head to drivers side that has rotted and leaks bad now. It hasbeen seeping ,just not noticable. Guy that works at dealer has changed a few and we ordered the parts. The cooler does not show any leaks just antifreeze from that crossover line. Trans has been downshifting from OD then shifting back up, then dropping a couple of shifts. I hope this leak has something to do with the irratic shifting. Its a Goerend trans with all the good stuff so my question is, would a leaking TC cooler cause a shifting problem? It never ran low on antifreeze and I have checked and checked transmission fluid and it looks fine. This cooler ties in with heater core . Truck is down until parts come in then we will decide if I want to switch them out or have them do it.

The coolant line to the heat exchanger runs very close to the cooler return line. It has a little metal button on it to keep the metal cooler line from rubbing a hole in it. Guess which is harder, the button or cooler line? :D

Ah well, a piece of hose and a clamp and I am back on the road till I get parts.

Your shifting problem is likely the gov transducer and\or solenoid. How many miles since it was rebuilt? Typically about 40k OE and they are done. Less on a built trans with higher pressures. Those things are so cheap they can be bad out of the box. If you haven't done so an upgrade for the solenoid is available.

Theres an idea. Well maybe we won`y be down till we get the parts. I`ll find a peice of hose and couple clamps . May be a challege though for the lack of elbow room.

Not sure which line it is on yours but if its the same as mine, pull the driver wheel fender liner and its easy to get to. 6 little bolts and the liner comes right out, if you didn't know that. ;)

Yipper Ive dug out three starters in 2 years through drivers side, 1t was 10 above with a driving wind, whatayado. :rolleyes:The trans was installed in Feb last year. Ill be runnin along about 50 when zoom it dowshifts then itll go down another and im like pulling over on the tow lane . Ever so often, but its more persistant and I do not want to damage this trans ,as it cost me 5K. Hopefully this will be resolved soon as we use it everyday all day pulling our landscape trailers. It sputters too like the fuels bad ,I just put in a new filter.

355,000 on odometer bound to give me some trouble. But its been well cared for not abused and customers still think I have a new truck.

Fixed a couple that did exactly that by replacing the gov solenoid and transducer even though they never threw codes. Ask Dave if you talk to him, he should have it in his notes.

Never could figure out why they cause it, even tore one of the transmissions apart and rebuilt the OD section. Lasted 600 miles and right back to doing the same thing. Changed the transducer and solenoid and problem solved.

Spoke with Dave Fri. He gave some tips . I`m suspecting either injector trouble or FCA . I`ll call Cummins Mon. to see what FCA will set me back. No contamination thank God but this AM it started rough and idled rough for the first time since owning. My thought was maybe because it had a low coolant level. I didn`t run it more than 5 secs. Hopefully it is something simple , did I say SIMPLE ?
