I've had classic intermittent TC lock/unlock problems typical of my 99. I've installed the BD noise filter, wire brushed/dielectric greased all grounds, aluminum foil on battery cable, added extra ground cable from battery to PCM screw on firewall. This seemed to take care of the problem until yesterday.

Made first tow yesterday since my repairs with my 7000lb horse trailer through our local mountains and the lock/unlock problem came back but worse than before. O/D off or on..... it made no difference.

After dropping the trailer the problem went away. Any ideas what is going on. I'm at 99K miles with a mild box.

Any input would be appreciated.

No. I thought I had read where some dealers reflashed the PCM to fix this problem and then derated the engines HP & TQ to accomodate the emission gods. I would not be happy if the truck came back with less power than before it went in.

Had mine done and did not notice any change in power levels. I did all the things you did and more and still had the problem some times.

I have tried many things and finally had a less than a year old alternator checked for ac and sure enough it was sending current, replaced it and magically delicious. I'm just saying to make sure to check the common item as well. And now 3 days later my new replaced alternator has died and not charging my batteries, soo this will be the third in less than a year. Its annoying but at least the lock/unlock problem is fixed. I have done the dtt, sun-coast method, aluminum foil method, clean grounds, new battery cable ends, cleaning some electrical plugs under the drivers fender (guy from sun coast suggested) and all was temporary fixes. Annoying problem for a bunch of people =)

t/c unlocking

I did the usual mods on my 98. 5 for this problem and they seemed to work for awhile and then come back. A couple months ago I installed the Navone filter and so far so good. Only takes a few minutes to do.

I also have the Navrone Filter it has been installed for about a year now and the problem has not returned. Prior to that I tried all the common fixes (foil, rewire, grounds etc. ) truck runs great now.

cured

Here is my cure copied from an earlier post.

I highly reccomend the APPS timbo sells if you are going to do this.

his unit was much stouter. I also reccomend solder all the connections.

as my post states i had other issues as well indigneous to the 24 valve.

I spent 2 days doing this right. as far as the ground I used the bolt that holds the steering wheel colum to the firewall the best 2 days i spent on the truck now about those terrible back brakes... ... . pm me if you need further assistance.

HELLO

I have been off the board for a while. so you are Gonna see a few posts by me for the next few days.

I drove from WA state to FLA in FEB pulling my 30 ft toy hauler.

I was having power issues could not make more that 30 lbs of boost and just did not have the same pulling ability as I once had and the dreaded lock and unlock while under load as well as getting the CEL light the code was P0253

truck trailer cargo = 18000 lbs un lock and unlock at this weight at 65 mph. gets your attention. this was very intermittent and only at more that 27 lbs of boost. Once down here in FLA after dropping the trailer the TC un Lock /lock back up was getting more frequent to the point it was causing me great heartache during normal driving.

long story short. I read a post on tdr that this is one symptom of a failing APPS. so I figured I would go with TIMBO and his super APPS that he sells.

after talking to him he also suggested the suncoast converters APPS ground modification as part of this repair. while I had the bellcrank and APPS apart I soliderd the tap wire on the COMP and ran the ground from the COMP to the Battery. I put it all back together and I love My truck again. I can make 42 LBS of boost "AGAIN" no more codes, and this stopped all TC Unlock and Lock back up problems dead in the tracks the beast runs Like it did 5 years ago.

Special thanks to TIMBO

special thanks to Suncoast converters

both took the time to talk with me and walk me thru this repair.

any questions please ask.

Thanks for reading.

Chris

I installed the Navone N 25 filter this am. and the truck runs great. I'll hold off on final judgement for a few weeks. Spratt
