Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) TC lockup switch

Rebuilt my transmission with full DTT transmission this last september. I installed

a lockup switch per the instructions on the TST website. The switch locks

the tc in 2nd and direct drive when the transmission selector is in direct drive but it will not lock the transmission when the transmission selector lever is in 2nd. I tried researching this on TDR site but nothing like this comes up.



Does anyone have any ideas? I really would like 2nd gear lockup when the transmission selector is in 2nd since I drive allot on steep logging roads in 2nd gear and the transmission temps can bet pretty warm. I would like to lock up to improve efficiency and keep transmission temps lower.

Do you know what kind of valve body they built your transmission with? I think factory style valve bodies wont allow a TC lock in second without a valve change... Hope someone smarter n me can give you a better answer... I too would love a second gear lockup... like you I tow in mountains with a big 5'r and once you get off the main road... 2nd is as high as I want to go but the T temp gauge can get "up there" in a hurry.

Thanks for the reply. My transmission rebuild was full DTT transmission so the valve body is no longer stock. The tech who installed the DTT suggested that, due to my

driving conditions, I should install the switch. Along with that bit of advice he

warned me about no lock-to-lock shifts and the other lockup switch precautions. I plan to contact the transmission guy and see what he says and I probably contact DTT to see what they say. Who knows, I may end up getting a smart controller.



Well see if any other TDR folks have any advice.

DTT no longer makes the smart controller.

Sun Coast now sells a loc controller that seems to be fully programmable in any gear and at any speed. I think they have it priced at $400, not terrible bad if it does what it should it may be your answer. They have it on there website.

Thanks for your reply's. Yeah I contacted DTT and discovered

no more Smart Controller. I will check out Suncoast and see what

they have to offer, thanks for the tip SHuber.



I also checked BD and it seems they may have a product

that will give me what I am looking for, will compare to Suncoast.



I also contact my transmission installer (email) and once his phone is working

we will discuss my switch installation. He says his works in all gears, which

mine does with the selector lever in drive, but I want it to work in second

when the selector lever is in second. Any other ideas?

My DTT Smart Controller has a switch on the linkage for second gear position/lockup.

I just read about the Sun Coast controller. The DTT box does more, including control over the speed of the 3rd to OD shift. I am a bit mythed as to why DTT no longer supplies this third party controller. Where is the support for the installed base of boxes, which is large.



Call DTT and ask them which box they now use on a build of a 47RE transmission for exhaust brake use.



BTW, I put the power to my DTT controller on an old style floor head light switch. Allows hands free operation with my left foot. SNOKING

I just read ATS' stuff on there smart controller and agree with DTT's years ago statements that theirs was a better controller.



Who else makes a controller?

Snoking - BD also makes a couple of products that controll TC

lockup and transmission shifting, BD calls them the Torqloc and the Towloc.

Yeah, I was disappointed when DTT told me they no longer sell

the Smart Controller. The stated reason was it was no longer feasible

to carry the product since the new transmission (68rfe ?) had all that functionality

built in. Not sure what kind of support they are able to provide to

existing Smart Controller owners. Guess you'll need to contact them to

find out.
