Can anyone tell me which wires need to spliced into to run a toggle switch to lock up the TC. I have also heard on needing to put a resistor in this line. any help would be great.

It's the or/bk wire, pin 11 on C2 (middle connector). An alternative, and possibly easier access, is to find it at the transmission solenoid on the drivers side, near shift lever. I doubt that you will need a resistor on your '99, I didn't on my '98.

Is there anyway to do this with out getting a ck-engine light. Also, with the relay removed, how does it function correctly when the "mystery switch" is in the off pos?

ok so if im understanting this correctly a simple 12v to this wire will lockup the tc. and will the power going back to the ecm cause problems other places

No. Do not apply any voltage to the TC Lock up wire. It is to be grounded. But as for the "no engine light" Forget it.

Hmm. I've got the "mystery switch" on my '99 and I sure don't get a check engine light!

It's a good mod. Just make sure you remember to shut it off before it starts chuggin' it's way into the intersection!! It'll wake you up quick!!

VERY IMPORTANT to apply only chassis ground to that wire. Mike

On CA trucks you will get a check engine light, unless you put a resistor on the ground side of the switch. If I remember correctly it needs to be about a 50 to 70 ohm resistor. I also didn't pull the relay on mine.

TC Lock

If yer still having problems with trying to put a switch in to "force" TC Lockup, Try this... I did it and it works great on my 95 DTC Dually with 348,000 miles.

This method uses a Bosch style relay (available almost anywhere) and instead of controlling a "hot" circuit with a heavy load, it controls the ground circuit between the trans and the PCM.

1. Install an old style dimmer switch in the floor where you wont accidently step on it.

2. Wire one side of the dimmer switch hot/key on.

3 Wire the other side of the dimmer sw to the switching circuit on a 30 amp Bosch relay mounted behind the knee bolster. Term#85

4. Ground the "solonoid ground side" Term#86 of the relay to a good ground.

5. Connect term "30 on the relay to the TC Lock wire at the PCM. . usually orange/black... If in doubt, do it at the trans. All 47RH, 47RE and 48RE are the same in this dept. the 3 pin term to the rear of the shift linkage is wired like this. Front Pin (closest to front of truck is ground for OD solonoid, Center Pin 12v hot, Rear Pin is ground for TC Lockup solonoid. Ground the Load Term usually #87 to a good ground. The front and rear pins are wired to the PCM where ground switching is controlled internally

6. Wire in a little led somewhere where you can see it, from the dimmer switch, so you dont forget to unlock it! Otherwise!!!... When you come off the interstate with the radio jammin and you wonder why your truck is bucking and you stalled the engine at the stop sign at the end of the ramp... you'll know you forgot to unlock the TC... This switch assy. bypasses the PCMs function of killing the TC/ground when you hit the brake and the TPS is closed (foot off the gas), below @40-45 mph.

With this setup you can force lockup at speeds above 35 mph in a 47RH due to the fact that ground for lockup and od are at the same point in the PCM. When you hit the switch in the floor, fourth gear and TC lockup are almost simultanious and virtually immediate. Remember! It wont/cant come unlocked untill you push the dimmer again to turn it off!!!! Great Fix for a worn TPS that is causing TC L hunting!

Hope This Helps !

Paulb, Whats the dealio on not removing the relay?

Geez, this is an old thread!

On my truck (CA model) when I removed the relay, and jumpered it, it would set a CEL light. Sorry don't remember the code.

Mystery Switch

On CA trucks you will get a check engine light, unless you put a resistor on the ground side of the switch. If I remember correctly it needs to be about a 50 to 70 ohm resistor. I also didn't pull the relay on mine.

I HAVE THE MYSTERY SWITCH WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MY CA. TRUCK. WOULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT OHM RESISTOR WILL CAUSE MY INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN OFF. THE SWITCH SET THE CODE P1765. TRANSMISSION 12 VOLT SUPPLY RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT. THANKS: PAUL
