I am at the point now where I need to upgrade my trans. I have reviewed signatures and now am wondering which one is right for me. I have heard of Bill K and his magical TC,VB combo. and the one Frank Noble (Jennetty's Racing Ent. ) is running in his dually. But what are the pro's and con's, is one better then the other and why? I am confused on this one. I hope you guys can help me out on this one. Thanks Again!!

i have to say that i recieved an excellent product and excellent customer service form Bill K. . he may be the new kid on the block , being out on his own , but when i recieved a call on sunday afternoon to ask how my install went , as they were worried when they didn't hear from me , thats a company that is concerned with their products and how the customer is doing.

i have also had work done at JRE and was very satisfied with the work done and the service before ,during and after the sale.

this is a tough topic/question for me to respond to.

Mopar muscle. I have to agree with you on the tuff topic. I had some work done at Teds place and there's no doubt that it doesn't get better then that. I am just trying to do my homework and install the best device for my application. And I am wondering if there are any out there that are less then adequate. I do thank you for your help.

groundpounder:

All the recommendations you have
received are good. I was treated
very well by "Scheid Diesel" in
Effingham, Illinois; 1-800-669-
1934. They carry the "Pro-Torque
Torque Converters" and "BD Valve
Bodies. "

One area I would caution you on is
the stall speed of the converter.
Both "Koa Man" and myself have the
12 valve motors. Before our engine
modifications (installation of the
370 Diamond B injectors and pump
mods) we both had a "lag" or "flat
spot" just off idle. "Koa Man" has
a TC with a stall speed of 1425.
Mine is 1600. There are different
"schools of thought" on these stall
speeds (i'm no expert on it) but I
understand a TC around 1800 should
be good. Maybe Dave Goerend or Bill
K. will see your post.

Your 24 valve motor may not have
this problem but I would think
about it when you make your
decision. Now that our "flat
spots" are gone I believe I
can speak for both of us in
saying we love our new TC'S.
If I remember, "Koa Man" has
a "Dunrite" TC.

Hope this helps you!

Yes all this does help and I am very thankful for all the information. I was given an excellent price up in Waterbury Conn. for the equipment and installation. The set up in which I am going for will be the pro-torq. Haven't heard anything bad about this combonation. Thanks again guys for all your help. Anyone in or around MD stop in on a Friday and we will go next door to the dragstrip and try these monsters out. The people hear love to see diesel trucks draggin. Especially against the power pukes!!

Guys for your information when companies mill the OEM stator they reduce torque multiplication when the veins are shortened.
When the stator is milled it reduces the ability to hold fluid coupling under heavy load.

All TC manufactures know this. As long as you guys are willing to buy these $30. -$40 milled stators the industry will be slow in stepping up their quality.

A little birdie told me that 2 of the TC manufactures are comming out with supposedly cheaper versions of the steel stator.

Buyer beware!!!Do your homework guys!!!

Bill

Bill, I drove a truck with your stuff in it the other day. Don't know who did the work on the transmission, but it arrived at Auto Wurks for power with the transmission already done. I can say that I was very impressed with the operation of the transmission in all aspects. Very nice product.

Thanks for the kind words, do you see why i think these trucks dont need mystery switches for acceleration.

I still maintain if these transmissions are tuned properly combined with these steel stator convertors they are an excellent compliment for the Dodge Cummins engine.

PS, if we are talking about Ed's truck , he did the work himself.
thanks again,
Bill

Anyone considering auto transmission upgrades should go to this DTT link and study it carefully: http://www.dieseltrans.com/DTTech/torqueconverters.html
There is a huge difference between the available aftermarket TC's. Bill's is the only one that can honestly claim increased fuel mileage - obvious evidence of inceased efficiency. My unloaded mileage went from 20. 0 to 23. 3.
Those who think Bill Kondolay is "the new guy" should know that Bill has been building automatic transmissions for drag racers for 20 years - remember the old Chevy Powerglide? They hold up to 1000hp and he guarentees them for a full season of racing! This is the technology he has brought to our trucks.

Groundpounder, those kind of questions can get everyone going #ad

I think everyone in this type of market will say their product is better than the others and all of them will come up with reasons, facts and figures to back up their claim.

My suggestion to you would be give ALL these guys a call and tell them what you would like your truck to do as with power and towing/load, etc. then compare pricing, service, warranty and customer support. YOU are the ultimate deciding authority and you will have to live with your decision.

Now for my pitch, check out www.bd-power.com and good luck on your purchase... Vic #ad

Real BOMBers never get speeding tickets. . just a lot of warnings!

HOLY LORD!! I have more information then this little burnt pea can handle. Hey Bill do you know of any TC's being manufactured today with cheap parts. My goal is race and pull hard. I do haul and tow heavy. I have to have a super strong trans. Milage is not a real big issue as I get 24 mpg on trips to Maine. I could live with a few mpg's lost. Cost is a issue but not a real big one. I do want a quality product. Longevity is more important to me.

Bill, I have a horror story about "mystery switches". Mike had a guy come in and say he had a problem with the injection pump in his truck. We piled in and went for a ride with the guy. He pulled out of the lot and as soon as the transmission shifted into second, BAM! he hit the switch and the dash literally "flapped in the wind". It looked like it was installed with half the fasteners. When we told him it was the switch and not the pump, his reply was "that's not the answer I was looking for". We never saw him again. That was years back. I wish I could take that same guy for a ride out in the truck I drove a few days back to show him, in fact, that you don't need a mystery switch for acceleration just as you said.

I have the BD convertor and I only see about 250 rpm drop at wide open throttle. How much will Bill's convertor drop rpm's under full throttle and does it drag the engine down very much when it is put into gear?
