How would I obtain a back issue of TDR #46, article "revoval of return line and reassembly"? I am looking for a procedure to access and replace rubber fuel line on top of engine, below intake manifold on my '95.

WEOlson, There used to be order form on first page but there doesn't seem to be one on new issues. You can contact TDR at 770-886-8877.

Going after the return fuel line is pretty straight forward.

Doing from top of engine. 1. remove fuel filter (be a good time to put new one on). 2. Using screw driver or socket/rachett undo srew clamp. pull/twist hose off metal line, unbolt bracket that holds return hose and metal supply line. 3. Using srew driver or socket/rachett/wrench remove srew clamp(located by transmission bell housing), pull/twist hose off (This mite be easier from bottom depending how long your arms are and if it is 2wd or 4wd).

Replace hose by reversing removal procedure.

Marine rated hose for diesel seems to be the way to go (state of art). You can get this at boat shop or from Larry B's (member).

I have replaced return fuel line hose twice next time I will go state of art.

The return line hose clamp is almost impossible to reach unless A) you do major disassembly or B) you have twig arms with big muscles. :)

I cut off the metal return line about 15" past the banjo fitting on the outlet of my inj pump, and flared a hose barb fitting onto the steel. I then ran Trident Marine high-grade diesel 5/16" ID rubber line back to my tank. If you arent going all the way to the tank, you could cut off the return under the drivers feet and push the rubber onto the steel, and double hose clamp it. I ran this for a few months while I gathered the time to reconnect to the tank. Just make sure you tie down the hose securely so it doesnt get beat up by the front driveshaft.

If you can find Trident hose locally, I`d highly recommend it. Their #365 hose is almost 3/8" thick, with a special barrier inside the hose that isolates the fuel. Their website is here: http://www.tridentmarine.com/ and I do believe they accept phone orders.

Cummins also makes a banjo barb fitting, I saw the part number here a while back, but I cant find it thru a search at all. . Maybe someone will chime in. .

good luck

if you're disassembing the return, now is a good time to change your overflow valve.
