Ok, I finally got around to ordering my TDR Grill Badge! It is pretty cool looking and I can't wait to install it! Now, I am not going to use the supplied velcro and I doubt any of you did either! Could you guys help me with this? Please give me some suggestions on location and what you used to keep it in place. Thanks in advance for the help! Jeremy.

Here's What I Did!

I went down to Lowe's and got a tapered-head 1/4-20 brass machine screw & nut along with 2 fender washers. I selected one fender washer with an ID that would allow it to seat very near the slotted head of the machine screw and the other that was a good fit on the shaft of the screw for the nut end. I don't remember the length of the screw, but it was long enough to go through the grille mesh. I also picked up some 2 part epoxy.

I first roughed up an area on the back of the grille badge with a grinding wheel on my Dremel. I then put a healthy blob of epoxy on this roughed up surface, slipped the fender washer over the screw and pressed the screw head and fender washer into the epoxy (lots of surface area = a good, strong bond) and let it dry for a day or two. I then mounted it (lower left hand corner in my case) in the grille using the second fender washer and nut.

CAUTION: Clearance is limited between the back of the grille and the various coolers - check it carefully before closing the hood. You can always cut off the excess screw protruding beyond the nut with a cutoff wheel on the Dremel if needed.

Hope this helps... :)

mounting grill badge

Slybones and I agree on placement.

I went down to the local h/w store. Picked-up some 5/16 SS hex head machine bolts, nuts, lock washers, and fender washers. Also picked up some rubber washers, same size as fender washers, and some JB Weld. Pop the hood, open halfway. A third hand might be good to be sure you have the badge on straight. Mark the back of the badge thru the honeycomb pattern, 2 places :p (funny, it looks like a hex head bolt). Rough up the area on the badge and level/rough up the top of the hex head. JB Weld bolts to badge, wait 24 hrs before mounting. I put the rubber washers between the grill/badge and the grill/washers, for protection. OOPS, HUMA, get some Loctite :D backup for the lock washers:eek:

It will look cool when you are done and it ain't coming off.

Hey, guys, I know it ain't kosher, but the way I see it, it's my truck - I can put that sucker anywhere I want! ;) :D

Killer59,

I mounted Sue's grill badge with a stainless steel bolt JBWelded to the back of the badge. A stainless lock nut, a fender washer, and a piece of cork keep the badge statinary without cracking the honeycomb grill. Photos of the hardware and mount. .

Mounting location is up to you, but the first place I look is the upper driver's side of the grill. A few US Marine emblems and such have received big waves from me before I got close enough to identify the badge.

Im not a fan of JB weld,it comes apart too easy,on mine did the same with the screw & fender washer except i used fiber glass resin & some fg matting, much stronge stuff, imo

btw :upper left corner

I put 2 of them on my truck. I put them on the D pilar right obove the SLT Laramine badge. I used 3M double stick emblem tape, and it stands up to a direct blow from the pressure washer. :) I get alot of complements and have even passed out a few TDR broshures when people ask me what the TDR is.

Still trying to convert a couple of PSD owners to. (Hi guys I know your reading this):D

I used an elevator bolt, like a carriage bolt with a big flat head. I epoxied it to the back. I also cut a rubber gasket to keep it from cutting into the grill.

Thanks again

I appreciate all the input on this, I ended up using JB quick weld to epoxy two 1/4x20 bolts to the back and then bolted it to the grill. It is straight and it looks good! Thanks again for all the help! Jeremy. :)

Don't laugh... .

GE Silicon and two campbells soup lids. Drill holes for 1" flat head bolts (small) through lids. Silicon lid with bolts through it to badge. Let sit 24 hours. Use other lid on back side of grill.

Miones been all over western states with no problems. slight rubber mount effect if it get rock hits. .

Mine turned yellow quick

Someone may want to try experimenting spraying the badge with clear. I noticed mine started to turn a light shade of yellow in almost no time. This was during the summer. I think sun & heat are mostly to blame.

Bolts/

You don't need no stinking bolts, just silicone the back and stick it on, its not going anywhere, mines been on for months now.

Mine too has yellowed:(

I drilled a #27 hole and countersunk this hole in the center of the T"D"R. I mounted my Emblem/Badge in the standard location with a 6-32 Flush screw, wood washer, and nut. I then painted the screw head with white model paint. Can't even tell it is mounted with a screw until you get real close.
