Issue 68 of the Turbo Diesel Register was mailed out week ending April 30, 2010. United States subscribers, please allow 10 - 14 days for delivery. International subscribers should allow 14 - 21 days for delivery.

The assignment to the writers for Issue 68 was to think back to their previous TDR articles and come up with a "Best of ... " collection. My intention is to spotlight their work in the ever-evolving Turbo Diesel Register Buyer's Guide. You will have a chance to revisit their work when Issue 68 arrives in your mailbox.

Issue 68's "10 Back" column focuses on the DaimlerChrysler merger and the stress that Cummins had to endure with the very real threat of being replaced with a Mercedes diesel engine. Hindsight is 20/20, and Cummins was able to continue as the diesel engine in the Ram Cab and Chassis and pickup trucks. Along these lines, you may want to read a letter to the editor of Automotive News, April 19, 2010. The text, written by past president of DaimlerChrysler, Mr. Tom Stallkamp follows:

To the Editor:

I read with great interest the news of Daimler, Renault and Nissan forming a partnership of "equal representation" among the three companies ("Zetsche to keep Renault pact 'on Earth,' avoid Chrysler replay," autonews.com, April 8).

Dieter Zetsche announced that he has learned from the failed Daimler Chrysler merger and that this one will focus on "cost savings and car development projects rather than control."

Funny, I thought those were the stated objectives of our infamous marriage "of equals."

I have been waiting 12 years for someone at Daimler to admit that Daimler's quest for absolute control was a primary factor in the failure of DaimlerChrysler. That fact was only too obvious to the many people who worked at the company and tried to make it a success.

I hope this new venture will work where others have failed.

All I can say to Dieter Zetsche is good luck. And to Carlos Ghosn: Watch your back.

There is no guessing how Mr. Stallkamp feels ... .

Back to the subject at hand, Issue 68. What is inside?

- The writers give you their "Best of ... ."
- 12-Valve - Fuel filter and fuel delivery problems.
- 24-Valve - Fuel filter and fuel leak problems.
- 5.9 HPCR - Fuel transfer pump saga.
- 6.7 HPCR - TSB releases.
- Fourth Generation - "Ask the Engineer" questions and responses.
- Technical Topics - Power, economy and drivability with the '03 - '07 HPCR engine/600 hp in retrospect.
- TDReview - Spring cleaning how to.
- Four Whalin' - Greg Whale gives us a close-up view of the 2001 Ford truck.
- Have Ram Will Travel - Joe Donnelly now owns a First Generation truck and gives us a sneak peek. Joe also writes about clutches and intercooler design.
- From the Shop Floor - Air conditioning basics.
- Backfire - Titanium enriched lube oil.

We are confident you will enjoy Issue 68. Thank you for your support, and please tell other Dodge owners about the Turbo Diesel Register.

Robert Patton
Editor

[/RAW]
